This update has been a long time coming, and gosh, I don’t even know where to start. First off, I would like to say a well overdue THANK YOU. As my first full year running The Sewing Depot full-time, it has taken me on a journey that I could never imagine. I have had some amazing moments, met some very special people, and of all the things 2021 has taught me, most importantly I have learnt to hold my sewing community close to my heart. Because when stock comes to a halt and when a month locked in your house becomes daunting, my mood has been lifted by my lovely customers sending me their kind ..read more

On the evening of Monday 15 March we were treated to a very special audio experience at our premises in Buick Street when eight Singer sewing machines of various vintage states of “performance” serenaded us with the sound of gears turning, levers lifting and beautiful stitches being sewn. Our Vintage Singer Night was hosted by incomparable compère Gracie Matthews, who gave us some history of the Singer brand and its impact on home sewing over the last 170 years, an impact that can still be seen in Singer’s sewing machines and overlockers today. Gracie also worked one-on-one with our workshop p ..read more

A Visit from Singer

One of the many joys of working in this industry is the opportunity to commune with folks who love the history and legacy of machine sewing as much as we do. On Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 of November we were joined in store by such a one, the lovely Gracie Matthews, when she called on us as part of her role representing the Singer brand of sewing machines. Gracie is one of those inspiring people whose enthusiasm is infectious. She started her visit by taking us through some of her favourite features of Singer’s current range of domestic sewing machines, and it was so encouraging for us to ..read more
