Baja 2024 begins! 9 of us this year, 1 rookie. 5 of us headed down early, and will cross in the AM. No arrests or injuries to report yet. :ride Should be about 900-1000 miles of offroad this year, a number of new routes. Bit of rough start while finishing up prep the night before…. Frozen linkage bearing and no spares in the shop… so spent three hours “refurbishing” the frozen linkage bearing by cleaning, scrubbing, rinsing, rerinsing, the needle bearings before apply liberal amounts of grease and assembling. Should make it 1000 miles offroad in Baja, no? :laughing A selfie in case a rescu ..read more

here's the triumph of hope over experience, maybe: go Harley-Davidson! I'll certainly be rooting for Mr Pedrero in the "Maxi-Trail category" ... :laughing:Party info about Mr Pedrero: Quote: Joan has successfully punted a rally prepped version of the 1250 in several rallies and FIM Baja events this year ... so he should make a good fist of it against the other Maxi-Trail class entries in the rally ..read more

know we have some Baja types here on BARF Adventure Riding … :ride it’s more like a Baja 1300 this year, in “reverse”—with the start in a couple hours at 1am in La Paz, 11/16/23, headed north, and supposed to be live, on YouTube … we’ll see how that works, I guess: youtu.be/6fAfBL-g6H8 ..read more

Costa Rica for one

Alternative title, another questionable plan from Nate. It's currently raining (again) as I type this with rain expected on and off all night, so the roads aren't gonna dry up any, I suppose. I guess they can't get any wetter? I left San Francisco around 9:50 pm on Monday and after a 4 hour layover and a connecting flight, landed in Costa Rica at 12:30 on Tuesday. I didn't manage much sleep, I don't recommend this, but it did keep the ticket prices way down. Thankfully my checked gear made it, and the bike was delivered and in like new condition. It was crazy hot, and I had changed into my ..read more

Well, It's been a while since I posted anything even though I have been riding a lot still! So, on October 26-29 we did a great ride in the Shaver Lake area using a base camp off of Dinkie Creek road. I have to say that I am a fair weather camper and was caught a little by surprise at 22 degree mornings!! There were 5 of us, all BARFer's. MJJ put this together and had a great itinerary! Did I say it was Cold! " > Someone has a sense of humor! " > ..read more

Strat's October ADV Weekend, Eastern Sierra Edition

Day 1 It's mid-October and the kiddo had a 4-day weekend off school so he went to the grandparents and I went riding with my ADV partner-in-crime, Monte. This is the third year in a row we've done a mid-October trip together, so I guess it's becoming a tradition. This time around, we opted for the Eastern Sierra and it would be a shakedown trip for my new(to me) Husqvarna 701. We got across the valley and took Dogtown Road out of Coulterville And continued on Briceburg Road into Yosemite. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the 701 was a treat! Light, nimble, and far more comfortab ..read more

Mr bananachunks shared this loop with me, recently. google maps link: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...1657105393&z=9 BARF heads up this way each year with Ms two wheel tramp’s venerable HoHo Rally in Weaverville every August, and the Redding Dirt Riders do a dual-sport rally that starts in the Chappie-Shasta OHV, so I’ve done a bunch of sections on this map, but the SBCL looks like a fun loop that strings everything together. see what I can do with it in 2024 … :Party ..read more
