Hmm, it was sounding promising, until you mentioned fire, I looked it up on Doc site: href=”https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/east-coast/places/urutawa-conservation-area/things-to-do/boulders-campsite/ and it says NO FIRES. Bugga, that knocks it off the winter list. But i will consider it for a summer camp. Could always borrow A MR Heater Buddy and take that in a pannier LOL. Auckland Council are now proposing paid access to Muriwai Beach via a permit fee. I have been of two minds of that for a long time (well a couple of years since first mentioned). A shame about the fishing (at least just for a while), and the old fishing huts, but it’s a good idea I think – nothing else going for that entire basin area, and the work/jobs plus resulting big lake would be good for the area. The dickhead farmer who obstructed the old paper road from Alex to Onslow may be pushed to open it up again, which would be a good thing. Bring it on ..read more

Maungatapu Track is now very rough, rutted & loose rocky particularly on Pelorus side. Top gate is closed but most bikes can squeeze past. Challenging for bigger bikes, quite rough enough for me on a KLX250. No permission required for 2 wheelers ..read more

Went through Fri 27th from pori rd end.Road closed sign still there.Track was fine although very muddy and boggy about half way through.It was raining quite hard and the live stock wasn’t to keen on moving off the road so had to ride around them.all part of the fun.Glad i was solo as it have been a bit of a mission getting a group of bike through all the livestock ..read more
