Espresso gift set up recommendations under $700?

Ok, so I want to give the gift of espresso. The recipients are coffee snobs, so I really want to get something good that they will be happy with for a couple years. Looking for a machine and grinder set up between $600-$700 total. I was thinking the Bambino plus (on sale for $399) and a nicer grinder from Italy (to save a few bucks). I was thinking the Eureka Mingnon Zero ($360). Which would still put me over budget but a little, but I think it would be doable. I figure they can always upgrade the machine later, so I want to get a really good grinder that they won't have to upgrade. What do y ..read more

Question about Portafilters and basket types from a Newbie

Hello All, I've made a few posts here recently and I appreciate the feed back. After doing a lot of research and asking questions, I have officially pulled the trigger on my first set up. I have a GCP coming in the mail. However, the grinder I ordered is apparently on back order and I might have to wait several weeks before getting it. I have a few questions about portafilter types I couldn't find the answer to. Until my grinder comes, would a Pressurized basket still work on very coarse grinds, just so I can at least start practicing with how the machine runs and such until the grinder come ..read more

Profitec go over GCP for dark roasts?

Contemplating a new machine to replace my robot and everyone is saying the lelit Victoria or profitec go. I ran across one YouTube where the guy had been using a GCP, bought a profitec go and used it for 6 months, only to sell it and get a GCP again. His claim was that the Go was great for light roasts but the PID wasn’t really anything special for his use of darker roasts. He also said it took longer to warm up, but the Go warms up in less than 10 minutes, so I don’t get that claim.. I can see that to some extent, but part of me thinks he was just used to his old workflow and didn’t like adj ..read more

Your home-made espresso is the best espresso you will ever drink

I really like espresso. There isn't a day I haven't drunk one for the last 20 years of my life. After trying a lot of cafeterias, I used to drive every day to a specific one in my city far from my house where I found the tastiest espresso. So naturally I was fascinated by the thought of making espresso at home. I spend years lurking on espresso forums, reading anything related to technique and equipment. I have probably watched all the youtube videos of Sprometheus, Hedrick, WLL and the prophet himself, James Hoffmann. But I never pulled the trigger, because I always thought "no way a few hun ..read more

The Long Black

Any other long black fans? I discovered this drink somewhat accidentally. I had a... less than optimal Delonghi espresso machine and was drinking two double shots (or so I thought) in a cortado sized cup every morning. I then upgraded my setup to the classic entry level setup of the Breville Bambino Plus and the Baratza Encore ESP. Lo and behold, two double shots was WAY stronger than I wanted. So I started making a double shot, then pouring hot water on top close to the top of the cortado cup. Come to find out, this is a drink with Australian roots. The long black is typically 2:1 espresso ..read more

Does anyone know if either of these products will have another sale soon? I missed the sale on the Profitec Go for $800 and I'd love to get my hands on one. This will be my first machine so I'm just not sure what the market does. submitted by /u/FedMex [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Rocket R58 pressure issue
Reddit » Espresso

I have a Rocket R58 v2 and a few days ago it started acting up with the pressure. It's fine when opening the hot water tap on it, but starting the brew head the pressure builds up until the high pressure valve blows. I've descaled the machine, but the issue remains. I hoped it was a pipe or a valve being blocked, that could be cleaned out with a simple descaling. I suspect it could be the pressostat not preventing the pump from creating too high pressure. Any suggestions to what it is and what the solution could be? Thanks! :) /Simon submitted by /u/SimonSonic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
