A subject readers here at HealthyPets and clients at my animal clinic are very interested in is the kind of food they should be feeding their dog or cat for good health. There are 13 categories on my list, and what you're feeding will fall into one of them. Now, if the diet you're serving your dog or cat happens to fall into one of the lower quality categories, I don't want you to beat yourself up about it. As a general rule, people who are feeding their pets a lesser quality diet... Read more ..read more

Hi all My Bulldog Bear is 11 months old and he has allergies that just popped up several months ago. I did the "5 strands" allergy test with his fur and it is determined that he's allergic to many things including salmon, chicken pork so I've had to switch food several times I had him on the signature salmon before I found out he was allergic to it now I have him on the venison signature but I just found out that it's grain free and my doctor says don't feed that to him. What I'm trying to... Read more ..read more

Any alternatives to Apoquel? My dog is constantly licking his paws and was doing better when on apoquel but it never fully went away and when we took him off, it amplified the problem and was licking his paws raw. We put him back on it and it seemed to lessen it but I heard apoquel wasn’t a good long term solution. He’s currently on Open Farm Rawmix Grain free wild ocean recipe. We also give him PetLabCo Allergy & Immune Supplements, Natural Dog Company Hip&Joint Supplemental and Ultra Oil... Read more ..read more

Hello EB family. I first want to say this forum has been such a great source of valuable information and help for me. EB’s are a special (figuratively and literally) breed and vets tend to always want to go the drug route with solutions so I try to exhaust all measures first, because like us humans, no one wants chemicals deposited into their body to cause other issues if there are alternatives to fix a issue, so thank you for all the replies on all my posts! Ok, on to this issue. I’ve... Read more ..read more

So my 3 year old boy has been struggling with allergies for a long time. I have taken him to the vet, tried the allergy meds and many different foods. Nothing has helped. He is itchy. His ears are always dry and scaly and around his eyes. He licks his paws and I constantly have to stop him from scratching. He will sometimes scratch violently till he bleeds. The vet said it’s allergies. So I have been looking at all the foods I have ever tried him on, the Acana, zignature, orijen, go!, and... Read more ..read more

Hi guys, I know it's been a while. Things have been busy and I can barely spare the time to sit down and enjoy a visit here. I do lurk here and there for a fix ;0) Trying to figure out some healthier alternatives for Bella for food since we keep running into yeasty issues with her. We always had yeasty issues with Tyson and could never really totally eradicate it. The vet did mention that it is a possibility that some of the itchiness could be from a dust mite allergy because of the... Read more ..read more
