Mainly looking for safety. I'll have a basking area and hides. What is minimum height to ensure they can't climb? It's indoors so I want it to have no lid. I know glass isn't good as they can't see it, is there some material I can use on the front to see him from across the room? Any best practices for that?

my family and I are looking after these two for a couple days while their bipolar owner is in the hospital.
i’m doing as much research as I can, but I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to care for these guys The big one (second pic, African??) does not move at all, except for twitching and stretching The little one (Russian???) stretches his neck a bunch, but doesn’t really move. he squeaks a lot. he also droop his neck when he sleeps.
TLDR: I have no idea how to care for these guys, or if they’re even healthy, help would be gladly appreciated

Hi All,
Would anyone please be able to tell me if my 6 year old Russian Tortoise is a male or female?
Ive previously been told that she appears to be a male but it appears as though she now looks like a male?
Thanks

I recently rescued this 5yr old female from a hoarding situation (small hamster cage with less than an inch of “substrate” aka hamster mulch and thats it. No rocks to climb on and a small cardboard box for a hide , never let outside or outside hamstercage to walk around ) she haa muscular atrophy and a long beak and long nails , drags herself with only one arm and was Only fed less than she Should have been ) she is much better and heavier and aware of her surroundings than when we first got her . The lady who used to own her told she was a Herman's tortoise and she didn’t know which type ..read more

(Reposted because the original was entirely too verbose)
Hi everyone. I have a question about my tortoise.
I have a Home's Hingeback tortoise, Beans. He's fully grown and his carapace is about 8" long.
Right now, I'm concerned about his enclosure. I had to get rid of the one we got him in (a 2'×4' open top homemade box, which he did well in) in favour of one that isn't falling apart (what we could afford right now is a 2'×3'2" bisected, partially covered pre-made enclosure).
I have read that this is almost the right size of terrarium. I have also read that I should put him in an 8ft livestock ..read more

I have a tortoise, right now i'm missing her because where i live it's about to hibernate
Recently, I've become really fond of her, whenever she was awake, i would softly caress her shell, touch the top of her head, and even some times caress the part near the chin and below the rest of the face (sorry, don't know the right word hahaha)
My tortoise seemed to like it as she didn't opposed to, and even sticked her head out for me to touch it, yet i don't know if i can tell this means she likes it or not, or even if my tortoise feels affection for me

Can someone share picks of their outdoor habitats? I have a Russian tortoise in a 80 gallon flat tank I made myself, and a box turtle in a 75 gallon regular tank that’s filled 30 percent with substrate for hibernation. They are all doing fine, the box turtle’s lizard just died after living together and doing everything together for the last 4 years, so she seems kinda sad. Anyways, I have outdoor space that’s big enough to house them both over the summer, it’s 25 feet by 25 feet fenced with chicken wire, used to be my duck run. So I need to modify it to make it save for the turtles. Any ..read more
