TLDR; XS or HiViz extended rail/rear sight...maybe XS with HiViz front?
Last year I had the opportunity to purchase an 1895 Trapper. I had been trying to decide between the Trapper and the SBL, kind of leaving it open to which one I found first. I like the SBL sight system much better and like the more proportional look of the longer barrel, but didn't like the polished finish. I really like the matte finish of the Trapper and the 16" barrel does end up being lighter and a little easier to wield. In the end, I am glad I got the Trapper. Although I do plan on shooting irons most of the time, I ..read more

I’m having an issue with my Marlin 336 Trapper. Bolt seemed hard to open at first and acted like it was hanging on the extractor. Ordered another and seemed fine. Went to check for burrs on the lever and all over the gun. Now when I’m cycling a round, it’s jammed shut. Have to almost punch the lever to open and cycle the round. Anyone else run into this issue maybe? It’s only when I try to cycle ..read more

Am I getting a steal of a deal on a new Ruger Marlin 1895 trapper that shoots 45-70? The shop has it priced at $1,200 which I know is under MSRP. Did the value go down or does this shop not know what they have?

My wife is losing her grandfather to dementia. I’ve been asked to help distribute the firearms. He had this very old Marlin 30-30 and I can’t find anything on it. Barrel says model 36-A-DL. Serial number has what looks like a faded “D”. According to what I’ve found no model ever started with D. If it’s not a “D”, and the SN starts with “53”, dates this to the 1880’s which I think is prior to the model 36 manufacturing date.
Marlin website is no help since it only looks up firearms manufactured by Ruger (??). Trying to get an approximate date on this so the family can decide to sell or kee ..read more
