Paul McCartney and Wings’ 1974 live recording One Hand Clapping is to be released on 14 June 2024. One Hand Clapping was recorded and filmed live at Abbey Road Studios over five days in August 1974, for a documentary directed by David Litchfield. Some of the material has been widely bootlegged, with extracts also appearing on official McCartney releases, but the full version has never before been issued. The Beatles’ 1970 film Let It Be is coming to Disney+ on 8 May 2024. The film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in January 1969, has been commercially unavailable since the 1980s. A documentary about the making of the film and Let It Be album, The Beatles: Get Back, was directed by Peter Jackson and released in November 2021. Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is to direct four Beatles biopics – one about each band member. The 1917 director has announced the films, which have received the blessing of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison. This will be the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps have offered their life story and music rights to a scripted film. Paul McCartney’s first Höfner bass guitar, a 500/1 model purchased in Hamburg, Germany, has been found and returned to the musician, more than five decades after it was stolen in 1972. McCartney bought the ‘violin’ bass at the Steinway shop in Hamburg in 1961 while The Beatles were performing at the Top Ten Club. The instrument, priced at 287 Deutschmarks, was custom made for the young musician, with left-handed models being a rarity at the time. A painting by The Beatles titled ‘Images Of A Woman’ has sold at auction for $1.74 million. The painting was sold at Christie’s in New York on 1 February 2024, for far more than the estimated $400,000–600,000. ‘Images Of A Woman’ is the only known painting by all four members of The Beatles. The oil and watercolour artwork was created by The Beatles in June and July 1966, while on tour in Tokyo.
