It's apparently been launched today - you can pre-order a body at Wex (they say it's in stock - the email I just received says you can pre-order it) at £7,500. Shock Horror! Leicaphile Steve Huff doesn't want one. And some of his reasons make sense ..read more

Almost a Leica

Many years ago now (late 90s perhaps) I came into possession of a Contax G2. It was a superb camera with wonderful lenses. Its drawbacks were the high levels of automation: auto fix wind, auto exposure, auto focus. However it was a delight to use and it stayed with me wherever I went, until one fateful day whilst purchasing a bag of film from a photographic shop (remember those days?) the very astute shopkeeper said "lovely camera that, but I bet that you really wanted a Leica. " He was of... Almost a Leica ..read more

When is a Leica not a Leica?

Or is it? You may remember that, for reasons we needn’t go into here, I collect 10MP cameras. I have examples of the major makes, and a couple of the more obscure ones such as the Sigma jobby with the Foveon sensor, but I didn’t have a Leica. Well, the obvious one is the M8. Unfortunately, it’s around a couple of grand, plus lens, plus infrared-cut filter on account of the sensor is a bit too sensitive to infrared, which is outside my budget. So when I saw one of these for sale, at a... When is a Leica not a Leica ..read more

I have been playing with my new toy. Now the full frame files are about 85 mb. The resolution of the Mono is way better than the Q2., in fact it is close to the medium frame Leica. The noise performance at high ISO is also a lot better then the Q.2 So I was rather interested in trying the crop feature. So here it is at 75mm and an ISO of 1250. No editing apart from resize for this site.... Leica Q2 Mono ..read more

Advice on the sale of a Leica collection

Hello all, My Dad was a Leica collector and sadly passed away a few years ago. We are thinking about selling his collection to raise funds for my Mum. I obviously want to gain the best price possible for her and would appreciate any recommendations for the best specialist auctions. I can see several online in the UK and Germany but recommendation from genuine enthusiasts is preferable. Thanks, Tim ..read more

Hi, Been looking to get a TL2 for a while, I love the look and feel of it and while it's still expensive it's an affordable Leica ! Has anyone got one, what do you think of it and what lens(es) do you use ? I would either probably go for the 23mm f/2 or the 11-23mm f/3.5-4.5. I like the prime but feel the zoom will be more versatile to start with ? Thanks ..read more

PA Curtagon-R 35mm f4

Has anyone used one of these for architectural work? And if so what were the results like? I'm about to do a series of pictures of buildings and have seen that the perspective control lenses are the ones to use. I could use my Summicron 50mm f2 on the Leica M4-2 but I won't have the control of a PC lens. Years ago I had a small R-system, and like an idiot traded it in for a 'Blad which got written off when it was blown into a rock pool by a 50 mph gust of wind. Now I'm reduced to using...
