Worth A Fix?

Hi all, was hoping to get opinions from the mechanically adept, on whether from these photos, would you be able to roughly tell if this Evo X just needs a bit of TLC, or any red flags it will cost a fortune to fix? It's a JDM import into Aus. I can only spot the differential oil leaks, and rusty bits & pieces around the rear. Not shown in photos is minor oil leaks were noted at the place it is garaged - this i understand we wont know whats wrong til we start dismantling the engine bay. submitted by /u/Beautiful-Maize-8478 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Evo x brake pads

I'm between the hawk ceramic pads and ebc redstuff. For people with these, which would be better for daily driving? I do some occasional spirited driving and I'm looking at maybe one track day a year. I've heard good things about both but I'm looking for reviews from people who've actually bought/used these pads submitted by /u/ADissapointingCircle [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

HOPEFULLY my Evo X that I've owned for 9 years and driven 5,000 miles will be done this year. What to actually do with it?

I have a few thoughts on what I should do with this thing. This is the 3rd motor. Or actually, this the second motor, but being built. I got this thing near stock back in 2015. Near stock, because unknowingly at the time, it was one of those put back to stock deals. I had no idea. Blew up due to tune or lack of tune based on whatever came off the car. Then got it fixed in 2020, new longblock, built cammed head, Driven Fab 6266 kit. Car somehow ingested some kind of piece of metal. Possibly turbo kit slag. Fast forward, it literally cost less to have my block built than get a different 4B ..read more

Just got my 99’ GSR in from port this week, slowly cobbling together parts for restoration/maintenance etc. Does anyone have any particular websites you use to procure parts? I’ve been using STM Tuning but I want a few more options. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Brewknot [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Upper Intake Manifold Heat Shield

Hello! I have had my Evo 3 for almost a year now and love it to death. The one thing that has needed attention since day 1 is the dreaded manifold heat shield as it was nearly dust when the car arrived. I managed to make it work until last night I had to pull it off to diagnose lack of boost (ended up that my turbo actuator clip came off) and now there is no shot this thing can be reinstalled. I certainly don’t want to run it without the shield and the radiator and alternator are going to get blasted with heat soak. That all being said, I’m having trouble finding an aftermarket heat shield fo ..read more

Bottom End Build

Before we get started, lets make an effort to keep this conversation focused exclusively on the 4G63 short block. I am well aware of how all the systems work together to achieve the end goal, but I also don't want to get caught in the woods (i.e. selecting the right tuner and turbo) while I'm asking exclusively about the short block. Thank you!! So, in my possession is a brand new Evo 8 bare short block, and I'm trying to decide what to do. When I first purchased it, I had plans to use stock bottom end parts, and slowly build it myself as a backup engine. I do not have a need for speed, and h ..read more

Tephra vs Standalone ECU

Has anyone gone from Tephra to Standalone ECU? Not a debate about Tephra vs Standalone, more to see if anyone has switched and got more out of a standalone. Tephra is great, and you can do a lot of things with it, but Standalones have come a long way in the last 10 years. So just chasing opinions and seeing if the Standalone with CAN and the ability to use digital dash is worth the upgrades. submitted by /u/phsylo78 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
