Autism Services participated in the Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation event in Victoria Park on June 21, 2024 . It was great to participate in the community together while honoring National Indigenous Peoples Day and Residential School Survivors. The Walk for Reconciliation followed a path close to the river, and artists performed along the route. Reconciliation Saskatoon is a collective of 115 organizations, businesses, non-profits, and more who develop initiatives, events, and programming to engage more people in the journey of Truth and Reconciliation. People dressed in bright colours, waving rainbow flags, and some decorated in face paint lined the streets. The parade route tracked up Spadina Crescent into the downtown, before ending near River Landing, where festival grounds had been set up. We are excited to announce the official launch of the webpage for our brand-new Empowered Employment Program! In Canada’s 2017 survey on disability, it was found that approximately only 33% of autistic adults were employed compared to the 79% employment rate among those without disabilities. Our employment sector is not currently representative of the diverse society we live in; though this is only one of many small steps, we hope that our newest program can help in building a more inclusive way forward.
