I'm putting together a hydro system, drip to start with but I want to be flexible in design so have  reliable connectors between the pump and the various sprayers & drippers I want to  swap out -without upsetting temperamental couplings.   In 50+ years of gardening I don't think I've ever come across a hose fitting that didn't at least weep or worse eventually, and indoors flooding is not on.   I can use barbs and Jubilee clips but Arthritis makes this more of a P.I.T.A. than normal.   I did see GEKA connectors but they don't seem straight forward to my stoned brain ..read more

How do you cool the water? ( Ice bottle?) In winter instead? Any heater to the water? - if instead of 8 x11 l pots, I would like to have 2 pots,or 3 x 20l do you believe I could use the same system/ tank, but Just exchanging the pots? ( This question is critical) - what's the best fertiliser for lazy people that doesn't wa ..read more

Ive been reading a little on coco and its attraction to calcium and wondered, since my tap water has a ratio of 10:1 cal:mg thiat might work to my advantage   maybe I dont need extra calcium, as its got a fair amount in the tap water.   PS always need to add a bit of epsom to my water or I get mg deficiency in soil   Average mg/l  Calcium Carbonate 110.66 Chloride 11.07 alkalinity (HCO3) 60.03  Calcium 39.40 Magnesium 2.96 Sodium 8.70  Sulphate 60.51   not sure if calcium carbonate will also be extracted as a calcium so ..read more

Biobizz in hydroponic

Hi all,   I am a bit lost with hydroponic particularly on the following: - I would like to continue with biobizz organic, but not sure how organic fertiliser decompose in a couple of days in water. - I don't have clear how often do you regulate the tank solution to be right with pH/EC. - I don't have clear how often the tank need to be emptied (if required) or if you just fill in with other water.   I am trying to consider a more efficient system which could allow me to be away for 1 maybe 2 weeks often without compromising too much the growing process. Maybe hydroponic over soil cou ..read more

Found myself using a unit called Quantumhydro it was giving P.h problems As in P.h kept dropping From introduction of nutrients and P.h adjusted after a day or so it was running 4.36 Tried alsorts P.h up didn't work it still went down.   Anyway it was still giving good looking plants a little leaf fading here and there but no more than that Good buds was happy enough.   But not with the P.h Had a few brainstorming sessions with mates and we came up with this.   If the P.h is dropping Why is it dropping? Looking at how the system worked didn't really give a clue as it just circul ..read more

bit of a strange one - first grow in coco, I got the nutes and had a trial run to see what the EC/ ph was in 1 litre of my tap water.   need to copy and paste info from my "crossing over the the coco side" thread   1L Tap water  Ec 375 TDS 172ppm pH 8.4   1L Tap+ 1ml coco A  EC 781 TDS 380ppm pH 8.2   1L Tap+coco A+ coco B EC 1085 TDS 535ppm pH 7.9    anyway the up shot is, the shogun didnt seem to be dropping the pH of my tap water by much,  so I tested the coco A straight out of the bottle - and its pH was 6.9 su ..read more

RDWC Pot Size?

My current grow is at week 7 now and I expect it to be down at week 10 so I have 3 weeks plus drying time. So I'm looking at ordering a new Hydro system in the next 2 or 3 weeks so I have it here all ready to go when the room is empty.   Like most things I'm loking to buy I search the net for advice as best I can and have been doing this for quite a while on RDWC pot sizing. As always there's no real answer I can take as certain so I'm here again in the hopes I can get some clarity.   I know which system I want, set on that, but which pot size?   The choice is 20L or 30L. It's a ..read more

What pump to aerate my reservoir

Help please! Anyone with aquarium submersible pump advice.    I use gravity-fed Blumat drippers in Ecothrive living soil and use a 1000l/hr pump attached to a Bubblegen flume in my 65l reservoir to aerate and keep the dreaded pythium away.    My current pump failed (got a few years out of it) and I’m now onto my second new one and neither of them seemed to put out the amount of power to drive air through the Bubblegen flume and the second one pictured below was making a hideous grinding noise when I was doing my daily check this morning.    So I’m wondering if I’v ..read more

I'm haveing a go at growing in coco but it's going to be a bit of a learning curve no doubt.    Basically one of the coco pots had dried out at a faster rate then the others and needed a drink, so I knocked up a liter of just growers ark root tonic as I had already made a bit of a mistake with the trace elements and added about 40 percent more then I should have.   I spoke to GA who said as a one of it should be fine but that I may want to makes its next drink just root tonic.   I gave it 4ml per litre of root tonic and Ph downed it to 6.4 from 7.4.   I thought I'd lea ..read more
