LAVAL, QC – The 2023 U23 Canadian Wrestling Championships and World Team Trials (Senior, non-Olympic weights) wrapped up on May 28, from Place Bell in Laval, QC with the World Team Trials. Wrestlers were looking to earn their spot on the team for the World Championships, September 16-24 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Women
The four weight classes on the women’s side up for grabs were: 55kg, 59kg, 65kg and 72kg. In the end, all four representatives from 2022 earned their spot again on the 2023 team.

LAVAL, QC – The inaugural Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships and World Team Trials (Senior, non-Olympic weights) began on May 27, from Place Bell in Laval, QC. The best wrestlers under 23 took to the mats looking to be crowned national champion and punch their ticket to the U23 World Championships, October 23-29, in Tampere, Finland.
The tournament saw a special guest, former UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre, who was also named Honorary Tournament President, welcome participants and officially open the event.

Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Bert Taylor.
During his collegiate years, Taylor was an athlete at the University of Western Ontario and University of British Columbia. He would go on to become coach at the University of Alberta from 1967-1973. During that time the Golden Bears captured three national titles. He also coached internationally at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Student Games.

LAVAL, QC– The 2023 Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships & World Team Trials (Sr. Non-Olympic Weights) are coming to Laval, QC and Place Bell, May 27-28. The inaugural running of the event will feature two competitions with many of the top wrestlers in the country participating.
The first day will see the best wrestlers, under 23 years of age, compete for the right to be named national champion in one of 10 weight classes for both Women’s Wrestling and Men’s Freestyle. BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA – Canadian wrestlers are returning home from the 2023 Senior Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 3-6, with a solid medal haul. The team captured 13 total medals including: two gold, five silver, and six bronze.
Canadian men won seven medals (six Freestyle, one Greco-Roman), and the women captured six. That resulted in the Men’s Freestyle and Women’s teams earning second overall in the team competitions.

OTTAWA – The Canadian Wrestling Championships (U19, U17, U15) are heading to Vancouver next week, March 24-26, as the best young wrestlers in the country will converge on the Vancouver Convention Centre for a true celebration of the sport.
