Still learning new techniques

I've been DE shaving for 10 years and have tried different techniques. I thought my current routine worked really well though I still got the occasional nick. For a while my routine has been 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG) using sweeping strokes which results in a near BBS. For a month I was using this technique with a Schick hydromagic without issue. Then the first shave back to DE I had a rough shave with a few nicks that took a couple touches with a styptic pencil and some irritation. I thought... Read more ..read more

I just got back from the Maggard meetup and its time to clean out the samples that I am not usixng to make way for the newly acquired items from the trip. The samples all have been scooped out with a 1/8 oz measuring spoon or not used at all. It should give someone a decent variety to try and find what they like. For this PIF the rules are simple - Just post in this thread "I'm in". This PIF is open to all new members who have registered on B & B in the past 12 months and be CONUS. I... Read more ..read more

Hey fellas Saw this the other day at an antique dealer in the country side. It was on display in the women's section of the store. Could it be for women or do you guys believe that it's for men? It read on the label "Hickok, Northern Territory, Buffalo, Made in Australia" On the top of the case it has a monogram reading "V.L." Also, how old could this be? Any information is most appreciated Cheers ..read more

Good morning fellow wet shavers, I started using a DE a good number of years ago (maybe 10+). Anyway, I started cheap using one From Amazon (possibly a Baili), and my very first shave I was impressed with the results (I took it extremely slow). I was using Wilkinson Sword soap with their brush - not good imo, but I didn’t know better at the time. I then moved onto a Muhle R89 which I keep getting mixed results with different blades. After a few years of use, I also purchased a Fatip piccolo... Read more ..read more

I found the restraint thread but what about those of us that are “unrestrained” As a Newb I have been investing time and money into wet shaving (as much as a husband and father can) and have gotten back so much from this community - thank you. Here are some of my recent purchases, feel free to show off yours too but we should keep our significant others off this thread To start, I got a PIF for a Captains Choice lathering bowl which I love and have been using it as my lathering bowl... Tricky Spots ATG

This question is probably too specific for general advice but I have this tricky spot under the chin to the right that I cannot get BBS on no matter how many passes. Is there any technique which I can use to fix this problem? It's really bugging me. I've heard of mapping but I am pretty sure I can feel which direction the grain flows in that spot ..read more

I started wet shaving almost 20 years ago, joined the B&B community 10 years ago, and have received much good advice from many members since then. My shaving life has been pretty good...until recently. It all started a few months back, using familiar equipment that has worked consistently well for a long time. One weekday morning, after my normal there pass shave, I checked results by running wet hands over my face, and to my surprise and mild annoyance things were not my normal near BBS... Finally solved my problem

A couple years ago (2019-2020) I tried searching for a stainless steel option for my 2013 R41 that I've used daily since about 2014. I gave up my search due to a certain plague that popped up and caused an abrupt change in cash flow so I forgot about it. Fast forward to a couple of days ago, new puppy got on the bathroom counter and stole my ShaverJoe brush that I bought when I first got into this and my other half thought I was going to lose it (was not happy) but the damage was just to the...
