Beth starts yelling at me about our pet fee, tells me we’re breaking the law and stealing her money and that she’s submitting a complaint

Beth is a Boomer. Late 70s. Because that’s the definition of the Boomer generation. And I’m talking to you, person on my last post that told me I was committing age discrimination by calling someone a Boomer. When that’s… literally what they are. But go off I guess. Anyway, Beth comes in, has a reservation, she signs our pet policy because she has a dog with her. Y’know. Our pet policy that states, in bold letters at the top of the page, that there is a pet fee of $25 for non-service animals. She doesn’t say anything. Also for the people who told me it’s cruel and unusual punishment to charge ..read more

Trauma from guest interactions

So I work in a hotel and part of the job is going to guest rooms at night for requests. I’ve now had 2 instances of guests being highly inappropriate to me when I was completely alone. The first was very angry and wouldn’t let me leave the room, the second was some teenagers who borderline sexually harassed me then when I reported it to my manager they brought their whole family of 12 people to the front desk to accuse me of lying. These 2 interactions have led me to feel traumatised and anxious about my job, especially working nights. Has anyone else dealt with things like this? How do you m ..read more

This one happened this morning. Guest came in and wanted to get a room for immediate arrival. I apologize and tell her that we're sold out and have nothing available. And I give no apologies for the theme of my recent post titles. I found a good group of friends to play with so I'm in a good mood. Her: It shows you have 7 rooms available online. Me: Correct. It's available at 3pm. Her: But I just saw an older couple walk out. Me: Yes. But their room is still dirty. Her: But it shows online you have rooms available! Me: Again, yes, at 3pm. See, when everyone checked in last night, they used th ..read more

Guest checked into our suite for one night and was polite at check in. However, after his girl got to the hotel (way younger than him) he started acting very rude by calling the front desk to complain for small little things with such aggression and rude. Fast forward onto the night, he got back to the hotel with his girl and went to the elevator, but the key got deactivated (he put it in his wallet) He immediately stormed out of the elevator started raising his voice at me and saying how incompetent I was at my job and as I was trying to explain to him that it could be possible that his keys ..read more

Ok, that might be too much hyperbole. Anyway, this just happened. I'm sitting here watching a video series breaking down how the Saturn 5 rocket worked, in very granular detail. Gotta keep the brain engaged during the vampire shifts, otherwise it wouldn't be long before I'm being sedated and getting fitted for a straightjacket. But I digress. I'm sitting here and I see a gentleman approaching the front desk and I pause as the video is detailing the triple redundancy of the three different booster state separations. "Can I help you with something sir?" Guest: "Yeah, I think my blood sugar is c ..read more

Last week I had someone I didn't recognize ask for a key to the bathroom. I keep it locked at nights because we've had too many issues. Lying by saying it's out of order takes care of most issues. This one was not most issues. Him: Bullshit! Your owner let me use it this morning! (And you don't think anything could have happened in 12 hours?) Me: Why can't you use the one in your room? Him: My girl is taking a shower. Me: What room are you in? Him: 215 (his actual answer, no such room exists) Me: That room doesn't exist. What's your name? (I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt since h ..read more

Hello fellow front desk workers. The story I have for you tonight is an interesting one for sure. I work at a well known chain, of which we have three of the same brand in the area. Last week, we had some inexperienced front desk agents try to deal with an oversell. It could have been prevented, but that's neither here nor there. They had a lack of guidance on the matter. We ended up having to walk a guest. She was a second tier member. So, we got her a room free of charge at a sister property downtown, an arguably nicer one as it's newer. According to my coworkers who walked her, she left ou ..read more

So although I mostly work at a Brampton Inn occasionally I work at the Chromewood suites next door. This story is from the Chrome wood, This was an ordinary day until a family came to check in. They were extra shiny members, First things first they asked me for an upgrade because of there status. Not only were we almost sold out they were already in a 1 bedroom suite were not supposed to upgrade anyone beyond that for free. I explained that we didn't have anything available. They seemed fine enough with that and checkin went smoothly enough. The problems start when there door doesn't open, it ..read more

Why do so many guests smell?

It can’t just be a me thing, can it? I swear I get so many hotel guests who SMELL. And not in a B.O kind of way but in a weird moldy way. I don’t know how to describe it honestly it’s just such a strange odor. Atleast 2-3 guests smell this way every few times a month. I’ve had to spray air freshener after they walk in or make the excuse that I need to mop again to get rid of the stench. I’ll never forget, I had a potential guest come in whose feet stunk so bad. They sat at the table waiting for some money to come through (it did not) and while they were waiting they took their shoes off and s ..read more

50 rooms, 3 stars independent property. We work all alone in the evenings. Zero other staff member on site. Boomer books a room with jacuzzi bath through a third party. Some boomers are very sweet and charming. But like in every generation, others are... more entiled less sweet. He seemed at first like the first type. Turned out differently. While I'm in the middle of doing check-ins, he interrupts me during a check-in to tell him there's a problem with the bath plug and that it doesn't keep water in. I tell him to just wait one moment so I can finish up with the gentleman doing his check-in ..read more
