How to Have a Quality Life
Summit Consulting

I’ve often heard the following suggestions for a quality life and don’t know where I have heard them, other than Terry Small, but I can say from experience that these are most important: 1. Read every day. 2. Compliment instead of criticize. 3. Embrace change rather than fear it. 4. Forgive others rather than holding a grudge. 5. Talk about ideas rather than about people. 6. Learn continuously rather than thinking you know it all. 7. Accept responsibility for failure rather than blaming others. 8. Have a sense of gratitude rather than entitlement. 9. Set goals and develop life plans. 10. Exerc ..read more

5 Levels of Listening

Level 5 – Resonant Listening – Heartfelt, making a connection, hearing what they say and understanding what they feel. Level 4 – Reflective Listening – Listening to understand, hearing what is being said, and more importantly, what’s not being said. Level 3 – Respectful Listening – Attentive listening, wanting them to know they’ve been heard. Level 2 – Responsive Listening – Not really hearing what’s being said, just waiting for your turn to talk. Level 1 – Reluctant Listening – Not listening, just waiting for them to finish and go ..read more

Things I’m Unlearning

I am inspired by Vijay Shetty’s post on LinkedIn about unlearning my beliefs and habits. I firmly believe that we grow up learning certain behaviour by those who role model for us and by ways to fit in to our community. Shetty states that he’s unlearning the following: 1. Ignoring my own boundaries to please other people. 2. Making myself smaller to fit into social situations. 3. Pretending like I’m fine instead of asking for support. 4. Believing in self-worth depends on my productivity. 5. Social standards of beauty and diet bullshit. 6. Sacrificing my voice benefits to avoid conflict. 7. No ..read more

We Need To Tame The Mind

I am fortunate to be able to do a daily meditation with a Daily Mindfulness app. The series I’m presently enjoying is with Melli O’Brien called Strength from Stillness. This morning O’Brien spoke of our need as human beings to tame the mind. She says that the human mind is a double-edged sword. Our mind has a dark side which hurts our inner world, feeding us limiting beliefs. She says our mind evolved from hunter gatherers. Unfortunately, our minds are still stuck in there, still on the lookout for dangers and threats. Even if everything is okay, we worry about our health, relationships, finan ..read more

6 Things to Tell Yourself
Summit Consulting

Once again, Jon Gordon inspired me with his advice for today and every day! Gordon says to say the following to yourself and someone else: 1. You are loved! 2. You matter. 3. It’s okay to fail. Everyone does. Failure doesn’t define you, it can refine you. 4. Fear is normal. Go for it anyway. 5. Smile, you’ve got this. 6. I believe in you. There are certainly days I could have used these words for myself. I struggle with #3. Even though I know failure is okay in my mind, I struggle with failure in my heart or maybe my Ego ..read more

Anne Beaulieu wrote a challenge for all women on LinkedIn about the importance of women to believe in themselves. When women believe in themselves, they show powerful leadership qualities. Beaulieu states, “You are a powerful woman. The most powerful women never back away from their own power. Take Eleanor Roosevelt for example. She acknowledged all her feelings and emotions and, as a result, had a powerful impact on all of us.” Acknowledging your feelings and emotions is the fuel to confidently move forward in business and in life. The most powerful women entrepreneurs get it. Real power is l ..read more

Show Up & Do the Work

I am frequently inspired by Jon Gordon. He inspired me with a post on showing up and doing the work, no matter what others say positively or negatively. I often am affected by the atmosphere of a situation, but I am also aware of the impact I can make to create a positive atmosphere wherever I am. Gordon states: “If they praise you, show up and do the work. If they criticize you, show up and do the work. If no one notices you, show up and do the work. Just keep showing up, doing the work and leading the way. Lead with passion. Fuel with optimism. Have faith. Power up with love. Maintain hope ..read more

Things Outside & Inside My Control

Jon Gordon inspired me with his post on LinkedIn about what we do and do not have within our control. Things Outside My Control: – Other people’s Actions – Other people’s Opinions – Other people’s Feelings – Other people’s Mistakes Things I Can Control: – My Attitude – My Effort – My Behavior – My Actions (to be a great team player) Just realizing what we actually have control over is important for us because it can help us let go of judgment for self and others. Let’s each of us focus on being the best person we can be and let go of other’s behaviour ..read more
