Research into this topic have been published in the IPA Climate Change The Facts Publications, with an updated working paper shortly to be published A lie will travel halfway around the world while the truth is lacing her boots, so the adage goes. And so, the showmen will continue to misrepresent natural disasters that befalls northern Australia while finding something popular to say at the very moment everyone ..read more

Removing Colour, For A Sick Story
Climate Change The Facts Blog

My Aunty Bunty used to work in a factory in Dundee, in Scotland, with thousands of other women all adding colour to black and white photographs. She was allowed to be creative; the idea was to make people happy. So, for example, she could add more pink to the cheeks of young girls on holidays at the beach. Nowadays scientist regularly do the opposite. They strip colour from pretty pictures because they want to make people feel sad, specifically about the corals at the Great Barrier Reef. They are not very nice people. That is the unfortunate truth. Greeting cards and postcards w ..read more

How Brown The Corals – That Were Pink Last Year
Climate Change The Facts Blog
by Jennifer Marohasy

I was back at John Brewer Reef last week and many of the corals are now dark brown. John Brewer reef has lost its pink, for the moment. The corals in this section of John Brewer Reef are now very brown, or green, because they are replete with zooxanthellae. There is a Coral Watch program that was developed at Heron Island by the University of Queensland. The ‘Coral Watch Coral Health Chart’ quantifies the health of a coral according to the intensity of its colour that is considered a proxy for the concentration of zooxanthellae. A report on the status of corals at Heron Island indica ..read more

Through me you go to meet a suffering Unceasing and eternal. You will be With people who, through me, lost everything. No one who wants a quiet or sociable life would be a climate change sceptic. Finding That Same Coral!
Climate Change The Facts Blog
by Jennifer Marohasy

I was back at John Brewer Reef yesterday looking for the same coral that was reported as badly bleached in March 2022. Do you think I could find it? Some journalists have a tendency to extrapolate from the specific to the general. For example, Graham Readfearn, writing in The Guardian on March 22, 2022, extrapolated from the condition of one coral at one reef to the entire Great Barrier Reef. Quoting marine biologist Adam Smith he wrote 18 months ago: We’ve definitely just seen corals that are stressed and white… This is one of the healthiest reefs off Townsville and one o ..read more

The appointment of Scott Pruitt by United States President, Donald Trump, as the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protec-tion Agency (EPA) has been controversial. This post provides a link to download as a PDF, Chapter 8 of Climate Change The Facts 2020, “No Evidence of Warming at Mawson, Antarctica”, by Dr Jaco Vlok. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has measured surface air temperatures at the Mawson weather station in Antarctica since early 1954. Temperatures oscillate within a relatively narrow band, showing no statistically significant long-term warming trend. This is the case whether considering the actual historical measurements, or the temperatures subsequently adjusted by the Bureau before incorporation into other databases. The other weath ..read more

A Tale Of Two Cities
Climate Change The Facts Blog
by Scott Hargreaves

ORIGINALLY APPEARED IN THE SPECTATOR AUSTRALIA It is a tale of two cities. First is Barcaldine, Queensland, which has been left reeling after a proposed coal-fired power station was recently crushed by state and federal Labor governments worried about carbon emissions. Second is Ordos, Inner Mongolia, where locals are celebrating the commissioning of phase one of their new Shanghaimiao power station with 1,000 megawatts coming online. Workers are in the process of completing phase two, which will take total capacity up to 2,000 megawatts. Interestingly, the capacity of Shanghaimiao is sim ..read more
