I created a fast piano piece to experiment with writing fast. I do wonder how I can spice up the harmony as it’s pretty simple. This is the YouTube link I really like the dissonance in this + the “harmonic minorness”

The "Song of the Son of the Morning" symphonically tells a story roughly based on the character of Satan in Milton's "Paradise Lost".
In the first movement - "Awake! Arise!" - Satan and Beelzebub awaken, having been cast into hell. Satan convenes the Congress of Demons and presents a plan for v ..read more

I’ll try to explain a little better — when I’m writing with orchestral section patches (I.e. 16 violins, 4 French horns, etc), how many voices makes sense to include on those before it starts to sound unrealistic? I usually limit myself to 2; most often I’ll double an octave with violins, because the main library I use has 16 violins, and I figure the difference in the sound between 8 violins each playing a voice in divisi and 16 violins isn’t big enough for someone to go “hey, that sounds like way too many”. But obviously, if I had 10 voices going at once, it would start to sound pretty unre ..read more

I wrote a piece for symphony orchestra called "Enters the King". It's my first time completing a piece for a symphony orchestra, so I'm not too sure if the wind parts are well-written/playable or not. It's a relatively short piece, and I would like to make it longer. Also, I didn't add dynamics to it yet. I'd appreciate any feedback :)

I'm trying to notate a simple melody where each note has a grace note a whole octave below it. Well, at least I think it's a grace note. That's the best way I can describe it. If you want to help me, you can listen to like the first 20 seconds at this link as an example:

Hi, I'm writing orchestral music since a year, and this week I will attend the Bruckner's symphony n8. This time, I really want each minute to be interesting, and I want to be really focus to learn about music compostion and orchestration (generally, I'll go to concert just to enjoy, but this time is for work ;) ). What do you do to analyze live complex music? Some tips, objectives you give to yourself ? How to stay focus to comprehend the whole things? Thanks!

I come from the music production hip hop/pop space and I’m transitioning into composition. I have a at least a terabyte of samples and a bunch of effect plugins and Komplete ultimate.
Why do I always see everyone talk about sound libraries? Is it a bunch of one shots in a vst format? I thought Kontakt would be complete (lol) enough for most.
Not that I’m looking to invest into it or anything yet. I’m just trying to understand and learn about the space as much as I can.
Much love thanks for your support and input I’ve gotten from this sub reddit
