I've been watching out for one of these for a few years, without any success. I have the fx-4800P and fx-5800P, but haven't been able to find the fx-4850P. If anybody has one laying around and would like to sell it, consider me interested! Working condition, ideally ..read more

HP-41 Cataiog Enhancement Conflict OS/X vs HP-IL DEV+

I am having a conflict in the enhanced CAT command in the AMC OS/X ROM and the HP-IL DEV+ ROM. In my NoV-64D I have the HP-IL DEV+ ROM on Pages A and B and the OS/X ROM on Page C. In this setup when I try to use the CAT function on the 41 I get the CAT enhancements from the HP-IL DEV+ ROM (pressing power brings up a 3 underscore prompt) rather than the CAT" enhancements from the OS/X ROM. CAT" I cleared out HP-41 page A and I got the CAT" back. Is there anyway to have these two ROMs co-exist and choose which CAT enhancements I get? Do I have to have the OS/X ROM in a lower HP-41 page than t ..read more

Clonix/NoV-64D Success

While Diego is working out some of the kinks in the Clonix Configuration Program he worked out a manual procedure to load my NOV-64D the way that I wanted to. I am running without the HEPAX ROM at all. I am using the 64K RAM as Blocks of 16K Q_ROM for block swapping HP-41 Pages 8 through B. Using the procedure from Diego and the READPG function in the OS/X ROM, the PIL-Box and the LIF Utilities have filled every page in my HP-41 (some of them are actually multiple pages due to bank selecting). I wrote a short program to catalog every HP-41 page. It's crude but here is the output of the progr ..read more

HP-IL - HP-41 Extended I/O and Development ROM manuals

More than 20 years ago I decided to create a more readable version of the manual for the HP 82183A Extended I/O Module. I sent it for inclusion in the MoHPC manual set and forgot about the whole business till a couple of days ago when I got an email from Eric Rechlin. He wrote that there was a problem with the PDF, in that it was not searchable. Wow, all these years and it never occurred to me to use the search function? I tried it and Eric was right. OK and now what to do about it? The manual was created using a 20 year old version of Word and I vaguely remembered having to do some shenanig ..read more

Facebook calculator group(s) that do not discriminate against the 9815?

There are two or three Facebook groups about HP calculators. They have 2-5k users, closed membership. I had joined them a few months ago, asked if there were any other 9815 users, and the moderators unceremoniously removed my posts with no explanation. I really don't understand what their problem is, the 9815 is a lot closer to, say, the 97S than the other (another unrequited love of mine ). 1. Is anyone else in the world still using their 9815? I wonder how many of them lie, lonely and forgotten, in some dark, dusty storage room at labs around the world (I do, on occasion, for sentimental ..read more

HP Prime Touchscreen Unresponsive

I recently got a new Prime after I have my old one to a friend. Everything works fine, but my new one has a much less responsive touch screen, as if the polling rate and refresh rate is much lower (It's on the highest refresh rate setting). Is this a hardware problem, or could it be something related to the firmware/software that I can change? For more context, the touchscreen on my old Prime felt like using a smartphone, while my new one has a noticeable delay between scrolling with my finger and it actually scrolling. My new one has the latest firmware and is the newest revision of the G2 ..read more

User Library 02011-41 Engine Trend Monitoring

Hello I am an HP-41 owner since 1977, and in early 80s I wrote the program for monitoring PT6A engines and I sent to the HP Users Library, and they published as: 02011-41 Engine Trend Monitoring Program for PT6A-11/21/25/27/28. I found the detail I enclosed in the HP Users Library Catalog 1989, found in https://literature.hpcalc.org/ Since that time I loose all paperwork for that program, and I would like to know if somebody could have that program I wrote. Keeping Old Computers Alive for …

An excerpt from Keeping Old Computers Alive for deeper understanding of computer architecture Abstract—Computer architectures, as they are seen by students, are getting more and more monolithic: few years ago a student had access to x86 processor on his or her laptop, SPARC server in the backyard, MIPS and PowerPC on large SMP system, and Alpha on calculation server. Today, only architectures that students experience writing program on are x86 64 and possibly ARM. On one hand, this simplifies their learning, but on the other hand, this makes it harder to discover options that are available in ..read more

Hi, I've been wondering if anyone here have insider info or have heard of any rumors on possible plans to release a completely new iteration of the Prime. I'm not talking about software, but hardware. We discussed here before what people would like to see, USB-C support, better screen, etc. Just wondering if someone here has any news to keep my hope alive. Thanks ..read more
