The Ontario Police Commercial Vehicle Committee (OPCVC) held its annual general meeting today in Gormley, Ont. The event was hosted by OTA member Anderson Haulage with members participating in-person and virtually.
OPCVC is comprised of all frontline Ontario police officers, including provincial (OPP) and municipal services that are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified by the MTO. In a memorandum received Friday evening, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) provided details to industry stakeholders of how it plans to roll out Phase 2 of its DriveON program.
The new DriveON program combines the heavy-duty diesel vehicle emissions testing program and MTO’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (MVIS) Program into a single digital inspection program.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) is expressing extreme frustration that the 2024 Budget released last week missed yet another opportunity for Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to unequivocally commit to meaningful enforcement of trucking companies who misclassify workers to avoid paying taxes, as well as their employees who wrongfully file taxes as personal service businesses.

The Government of Ontario announced today that sections of Ontario’s highways will be increased by 10 km/h – from 100 km/h to 110 km/h – effective this July. This follows up on a pilot project the province launched on other stretches of Ontario highways in 2019.
These increased speed limits do not apply to heavy commercial vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating over 11,794 kg operating on these highways. Heavy commercial vehicles are mandated to have installed speed limiters set at 105 km/h.
