Name: Chloe MasonInstagram: @chlochlo_mason  Website: www.chloe-mason.com How did you get into film photography? My first 35mm camera was an Olympus point and shoot. I loved taking snapshots of my friends and sending the film off to get developed. Growing up rurally meant that I wouldn’t get scans back for weeks, so finally receiving them felt like christmas!    My Dad gave me his Pentax 6x7 medium format camera when I was only 16. At the time I had no clue how special this was, so my relationship with the camera has deepened slowly with time. Now it’s my most pri ..read more

First of all, thank you for being generous with your story. It is admirable and so incredibly valuable. We love how you have been able to have a voice for your community and represent those who may not be at the point where they want to be in their journey. Out of all the creative ways of output, what drew you to create a photo book? First and foremost, thank you for having me. It’s definitely full circle from developing my film at Splendid at the start of my photography journey to being interviewed. It's such a pleasure. I think we’re really lucky to create today in this timeline. Information ..read more

Name: Cheska BrownInstagram: @cheska.brown & @_____cheskaWebsite: cheskabrown.com How did you get into film photography? I started getting into film photography well after University. I have a background in Fine Arts, but was always (naturally) in the photography department. A lot of my study was digital, as well as my commercial work then and now. I love taking images, but felt like I needed something where that process felt different enough, and I could also take some of that pressure off. And now here we are! We love to see that you’re working in the photography industry, ho ..read more

Name: Nicola Sandford Instagram handle: @nic_sandflower   How did you get into film photography? I had a Canon 500d DSLR that I used in my first few years of uni. That broke one day and I couldn’t afford to replace it so I started mucking around with my Dad’s old Olympus AZ-300 Superzoom. It’s a real chunky beast of a point-and-shoot camera but that was the beginning. I carted that thing around with me all the time.  Anyway, my friend Ethan, a camera enthusiast, gave me his old Canon EOS 5, which was super fancy and made it look like I was really good at taking photos. But the t ..read more

Name: Leonardo Coghini Instagram Handle: @leonardocoghini How did you get into film photography? It must have been around mid 2019 when I got my hands on my first camera, an old Olympus OM1 kindly lent to me by my friend Liam. At the time he was working at WPS and seemed to know everything there was to know about cameras; it's safe to say Liam was how I got into film. The first roll I shot was Kodak Portra 400 and I'm so grateful that fate would have it be that way and after getting the scans back I was hooked. The colours were so warm and they seemed to soothe everything. Prior to this my mos ..read more

Tramping + Film Photography thoughts by Abigail Legg
Splendid Photo Blog
by sean aickin

Abigail from our Te Whanganui-a-Tara store shares some thoughts which we felt may help those who like film photography and tramping or just interested in either. I can’t say that I am the most qualified to talk about tramping but I can talk about film photography. As someone who has completed a handful of roadies here and there, traveled with camera kits overseas and loves to camp where there is no reception, you’d expect there to have been at least one tramping trip to be wedged in there. I will be vulnerable and say that there is not.  If you’re more or less in the same boat I hope thi ..read more
