The Book of Quantum has been reviewed by the Judicial Council with an aim to promote consistency in awards of damages in personal injuries claims and to set out the manner in which they are to be applied by the Irish Courts. The Guidelines came into effect on the 24th April 2021 and will apply to damages in all personal injury actions commenced on or after the date. The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has confirmed that there will be a phased expiry of NPPR charges, late payment fees and the charge on property.  From 1 August 2021, the amount due for same will reduce every year until the liability and charge on property expires completely on 1 April 2025.  To view the details, see the letter dated 25 June 2021 received from the Department. First Time Buyers – New Help to Buy Scheme

The recent Budget has introduced a new Help-To-Buy scheme for first time buyers. This will provide a rebate of Income Tax paid over the previous 4 years to a maximum of 5% of the purchase price of a new home up to the value of €400,000. Pro rata rates will apply to lower priced houses. A Full rebate calculated on €400,000 will also apply to houses between €400,000 and €600,000. New building control regulations were signed by the Minister for the Environment on 15th January, 2014 and come into operation on 1st March, 2014.
