We purchased our neglected, run down cottage in the Winter of 2010. The extensive renovation has been a passion project for my partner and myself ever since. Prior to this massive task we had never undertaken anything to this scale and have learnt many valuable lessons on this journey. Our vision was always to create a warm, comfortable country farm house style family home within five years, however its going on 10 years now! But the end feels finally in sight. Exterior repairs and changes include: New roof, replacement of rotten weather boards, removal of rotten frenchdoors and windows, new d ..read more

Last year Homescene Journal introduced its followers to the incredible homebody team that create linen bedding and accessories. homebody is back with collection no. 2 and they certainly don’t disappoint! 2020 taught us the true meaning of being homebodies. We have created a collection to bring a sense of calm/peace with our palette of neutral tones, greens and soft mauves. Even us homebodies are spending more time at home looking inward, both by necessity and by choice, so it has become more important than ever to create spaces we love and to make our homes our sanctua ..read more

Christmas, New Years and Summer Holidays are fast approaching and after a not so great 2020 for many it feels like the right time to start thinking about spending quality days with friends and family. Whether you are dining indoors or outdoors this season you can create your own beautiful styled table. I personally love the look of a relaxed, neutral table setting and depending on the occasion and location it is easy to alter the aesthetic by changing a few items on the table. Different napkins, flowers / foliage, glasses or cutlery can transform a table. Line the table with a white / neutral ..read more

2011 – BEFORE: 2021 – AFTER: Once a dark, cold living space full of draughts, holes and rot has since been lovingly transformed into a warm, homely, family space. Our renovation has been a labour of love spanning almost a decade now. We wanted to keep some of the natural wood in the main living area but paint the walls and ceilings in a clean, crisp white to create a sense of space, light and provide the perfect backdrop for pops of colour with accessories, soft furnishings and art. Just some of the changes in this one space include: All new wall linings; wiring, insulation, walls & ..read more

Wanaka based abstract water colour painter Sophie Melville has produced 3 new beautiful beach inspired fine art prints, read on to discover more about the collection! ‘I’ve found I’m drawn to focusing on the process of creation not the end result. I’ve then discovered that my best works are when I have given everything to the process of creating and have been utterly absorbed with translating my energy onto paper.’ The works in this collection ‘Beneath the Stillness’ were inspired by a desire to go deeper and build on my acceptance and harmony with the flow of life. While I’m dr ..read more

Coloured Concrete Basins – Made in NZ from Crete Basins.

Can you tell us a little about your new business & what inspired you to start this new venture? Crete Basins was something that I slowly landed myself into while working on natural Moroccan lime plasters for bathrooms. I love the natural, rustic and elegant style of Mediterranean interiors and began experimenting with making basins in a range of different materials and techniques. It took a lot of failures and testing to finally settle on a concrete mixture that incorporated a lot of the same natural materials that I use for natural plastering. Everyone I spoke to loved the shapes and col ..read more

Can you tell us a little about yourself? Sure! I’m a mama to my daughter Jordyn, partner to Michael,  a business owner and a lover of all things houses/interior designer!  The renovation you and your partner did on the cottage was beautiful, what made you want to take on this project? Thank you, I fell in love with this cottage instantly. I wasn’t quite sure how we were going to juggle it whilst completing our new build as well but I was pretty determined to find a way.
