The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame extend condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Bill Mahoney, former captain of the Peterborough Petes. He died in London, ON on December 16th, 2021 from dementia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peterborough native Doreen (Little) and their children Jeff and Karen. Mr. Mahoney was inducted into the PDSHOF in the athlete category for his tremendous abilities in hockey. The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame is saddened to announce the passing of Ken Ruttan on Sunday, November 14, 2021.  Ken Ruttan served on the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame from 1997 to 2019.  He was Chair of the Board from 2015 to 2019.  During his time as a Hall of Fame volunteer, Ken contributed significantly to the development and success of the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame. On behalf of the Peterborough Professional Hockey Alumni, Steve Larmer was at the Hall of Fame October 21st to present chair Patricia Bronson with a cheque for $6,700. These funds have been directed for use to our bursary fund. Annually, 4 student-athletes receive a $2,000 bursary toward their post-secondary education. After a one year hiatus due to COVID, the 34th edition of Jack’s Annual Golf Tournament was back September 16th at the Quarry Golf Club in Ennismore, with 234 golfer supporting the event! Thanks to the generous sponsorships of many local businesses and the return of so many golfers, tournament chair Doug Gibson was able to present a cheque valued at $26,170.00 to Hall of Fame chair Patricia Bronson. $1,170 of this money was from Jack’s Mulligans. Congratulations to the Petes on their season-opening victory last Thursday night versus the Sudbury Wolves. May they continue to build a strong team and enjoy success. Thursday night was the first night in 19 months that we were allowed visitors into the Hall of Fame, so we were thrilled when Roger dropped in to say ‘hello’ on Saturday. I think he gives the Hall ‘two thumbs up’! The Hall will be open before home games and in between periods 1 and 2, and we certainly encourage Petes fans to come in and check the displays we have been working on during the shutdown.
