Considering a kayak or canoe

My wife and I are currently exploring options for a small fishing boat. We are hoping to find something that can be easily transported with our travel trailer to lakes, rivers, and reservoirs with nearby campgrounds. Since we can't tow both a boat and a trailer at the same time, we need a small vessel that can be carried on our truck or camping trailer. We are both in our late 50s to early 60s and plan to do this during retirement. We welcome any suggestions, experiences, and guidance that... Considering a kayak or canoe ..read more

Good morning - So I'm looking for a pedal kayak; mainly for the couple of times a year we go to EI. The Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL is one I am considering (Hobie Outback the other). Weight being a prime consideration as I want to be able to get it in the back of the truck by myself (both are listed at 85 lbs. without the drive which is about what the Atak is). I also float the New River in NC and the Yadkin often in the upper sections where the pedal drives will not be able to be used... Old Town Sportsman PDL and the River ..read more

Seeking advice on fishing kayaks I am a 60 year-old lady. I’m wanting to get a fishing kayak, but I’m wondering if I should go with the pedal version or something that has a motor like the old town kayaks have. Any advice tips would be appreciated thank you so much ..read more

Hi folks, Just relocated to NC a few months ago from Louisiana. I am thrilled to explore the beautiful fishery that is the coastal waters of NC. Just a little background, I spent the last 6 or so years fly fishing the Louisiana marshes for red/black drum, sheepshead, specs, etc. Then took on trying to re-create this experience out of an SUP kayak and had good success (a lot cheaper than paying for a guided trip =D). Since relocating to NC I have been out once with a guide around Cape Fear... Louisiana Native Fly Fishing in Wrightsville Beach ..read more

Lake Davidson (Norman) kayak launch

I’m looking to fish Lake Davidson, which lies on the east side of 77, essentially an extension of Lake Norman. I occasionally see kayaks out there and was wondering where a launch would be located? Looking to launch a loaded SS127 with FF and Xi3 so the less walking and hills the better! Driving through the area is seems that it’s not a very “outsider” friendly place. Looking for some input from anyone that has fished that small lake. Thanks ..read more

Hey I have been struggling to find how to install a fish finder on my kayak. There has been an underwhelming amount of information on what I need to install it. I need help selecting the materials I need to install the fish finder to my kayak. I have a 2023 Hobie Passport 12.0R and a Lowrance Hook reveal 2 7 Inch with a triple shot transducer. I already got some accessories like a transducer mount for the Triple Shot transducer and the Hobie Fish Finder Power Kit as well as the Fish Finder... Fish Finder Help ..read more

My wife and I plan on getting out more during the winter months on the kayaks to fish or explore along the inland marshes and sounds along the North Carolina coast. We are thinking about buying some wet suits but not certain of the best thickness or style (full vs shorty). What would you suggest? Thanks ..read more
