I just spoke with a guy who has an inflatable kayak I’ve been looking for. Here’s the rub:; He purchased it new in 2009 and just took it out of the box today for the first time. Does it have permanent creases that will crack when I unroll/ inflate it? Are there other potential issues I haven even considered? Its hypalon coated heavy duty. Please let me know what you fine folks think, and don’t try to snipe it… Thanks,Damon ..read more

Hey everyone - dropped off the Buzz a couple years as we moved from Colorado to South Carolina. Been doing some canoeing on local lakes and swamps but recently unpacked my Tomcat Tandem and have floated the local river here a few times (think for comparison Palisade to Fruita). About 2.5 hours or so. Lazy float. Anyway started thinking about packrafts for shallow mountain rivers. Not into white water rafting or anything hard core, but also tired of having to take two cars. Looks like everything but the last post is lost from the board. I don't know if they are saved somewhere but it would be great to pull some of these back for at least a little while. The responses were as great as the posts themselves. I pulled this off of gobacktothefrontrange.com - Max's website. Rantings of a Lunatic The Beginning As of 5/27 the Steamboat Play hole is for locals only-front range paddlers come up here at your own risk! No howlies-you guys are barnyard bra... Hey gang, so I’ve only been white water kayaking 4 or 5 times in the past but this year I’m planning on really diving into it. I love going all out into physical hobbies and aggressively pushing myself to improve in them so I’m considering buying a used full slice as my first white water kayak. I’m in shape enough (powerlift 6 days a week, ski ~20 days a year and backpack regularly) but my weight bounces around like crazy because I love food as much as the outdoors. My question is- at... Howdy Buzzards, I'm looking to join forces with another kayaker or two tomorrow (Friday) for an afternoon lap down Westwater. My buddies had a change of plans and I'm still itching to get on the water. Competent class IV/V boater, very familiar with the run, and have all of the required gear. Can meet at the take out by 2pm and should have plenty of daylight to be off the water before dark. Shoot me a DM if you're interested in joining. Cheers ..read more

Packrafting Escalante

Putting together a packrafting/canyoneering trip on the Escalante for next month. My main question is concerning the section between Highway 12 and Fence canyon. I expect reasonably good flows for the Escalante (which is never much, if you're floating in 2 feet of water you're doing well), but I'm curious how many miles per day is reasonable for a motivated crew to cover in that 35ish mile section. 15 is a casual day on most rivers, but is it impossible on the Escalante? Is 5-10 all we're... Packrafting Escalante ..read more
