Danish officials are trying to find the source of a Listeria outbreak that has affected 17 people since 2019. Two illnesses have provisionally been registered in 2024, said the Statens Serum Institut (SSI).  Patients have been infected with the same type of Listeria monocytogenes since the summer of 2019. They are 13 women and four men with a median age of 73 years old. One patient is in their 20s and four are in their 80s. Study reveals Salmonella trends in Denmark

Scientists have provided information about the types of Salmonella and people infected by the pathogen over a decade in Denmark. They identified 9,944 Salmonella cases from 2013 to 2022. Results were published in the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.  The leading non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) serotypes were Salmonella Enteritidis, monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium, and Salmonella Typhimurium. Researchers in Denmark have shared lessons learned as part of work on national burden of disease estimates. The Danish burden of foodborne disease study ranks pathogens and chemicals. Results from 2019 showed the top hazards were Campylobacter, lead, peanut allergy, methylmercury, and Salmonella. More than 130 people have fallen sick in 11 countries with contaminated chicken meat from Poland suspected as being the source of infection. An analysis by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) focused on two sub-clusters of Salmonella Enteritidis sequence type (ST) 11 with 134 cases mostly reported between January and August 2023. Denmark has topped a list of 10 countries when looking at hand hygiene practices during meal preparation. The rank of countries regarding proper hand hygiene practices was: Denmark, Greece, Norway, Romania, Hungary, Germany, UK, Portugal, France, and Spain, according to a study published in the journal BMC Public Health. Danish officials are searching for the source of a Salmonella outbreak that has affected more than a dozen people. From May to July, 14 people infected with the same type of Salmonella Enteritidis were registered at the Statens Serum Institut (SSI). The number of people sick has gone up in Denmark, but the number of outbreaks remained stable in 2022, according to recently released data. In 2022, there were 5,142 cases of Campylobacter and 899 cases of Salmonella, compared to 3,740 and 692 in 2021. Of Campylobacter and Salmonella cases in the past year, 28 percent and 40 percent were travel-related.
