Ok, so I’m seriously late to the ARC party, but, basically, if you are in Jozi, Pretoria or CT and haven’t visited an ARC Store, you simply must. Love this touch. I think that it’s the ‘injection of newness’ that the South African beauty industry has been waiting for. Skins is a wonderful concept, but many of their brands are very niche and beyond the budget of many South Africans. The big retailers have all tried their hands at beauty halls, with varying degrees of success. Some local love for the brilliant Afari But, until now, I haven’t been in a beauty-dedicated space that feels as welco ..read more

Review | Oola Skincare Organic Marula Oil
Rouge Beauty

I’ve got another pink gem for you today. This Organic Marula Oil from Oola Skincare is amazing! I’ve always enjoyed using oil on my body, but have found very few formulas that work as well on my face (with the notable exceptions of Nuxe Prodigieuse and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream All Over Miracle Oil). This proudly local oil is packed full of antioxidants and helps to reduce pigmentation and scarring. The texture is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave any sticky residue on the skin (keeping in mind, I have normal to dry skin). The natural scent of Marula oil is sweet and woody ..read more

Review | FOREO LUNA 3

It’s crazy to think that it was 7 years ago when I first used my FOREO LUNA 2 Mini, and I’ve used it every day since. That was until I got my hands on the brand new FOREO LUNA 3. Bigger than its predecessor on my bathroom cabinet, the LUNA 3 is made from ultra-hygienic silicone. This silicone is 35 times more hygienic than nylon (the stuff brush cleanser heads are made of), is non-porous and quick-drying to ensure it prevents bacteria from lingering and breeding within the bristles. It cleans the skin with clever technology that allows the device to work below the surface to help clean out por ..read more

Biomedical Emporium RX Advanced Micro-Needling with Peels

I used to be apprehensive about peels, but for the last few years, I’ve been a full-blown convert. There are so many benefits to having regular peels, and most skin types will benefit from them. I’m not talking about the blue peels of the past where your whole face literally fell off. Modern peels can enhance and regulate your skin’s natural repair and renewal processes. I’ve been having regular peels with Annerine from Biomedical Emporium for a while now, and tried a Biomedical Emporium Layered Peel with RX Advanced Micro-needling a few weeks ago. Sound excessive? Actually, it’s more like ‘wo ..read more

Review | Nuxe Crème Fraîche de Beauté Cream-in-Mist

A new launch that I’ve used every day since I got it is the Nuxe Crème Fraîche de Beauté Cream-in-Mist. I can confirm it is as glorious as it sounds. I’ve been a huge fan its stable mate, the Crème Fraîche de Beauté 48hr Moisture SOS Rescue Mask, for years, so was very excited to try this. It’s basically a mist version of the Crème Fraîche de Beauté 48hr Moisturising Cream. It covers your face is a light veil of moisture whenever it needs it. It’s a perfect mist, too. Just enough for your skin to feel quenched, but not drenched in product. The vegan formula contains 89% ingredients of natural ..read more

As the weather slowly changes into the cooler months, trust CHANEL to bring the joy of spring to blustery autumn days.  What could be more wonderful than wearing a collection entirely inspired by flowers as we head into the depth of winter? Les Fleurs de CHANEL was created by Lucia Pica (the brand’s Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer) to evoke the emotions flowers give us. Taking a lead from nature herself, the collection is an exquisite array of natural hues, highlighted with shimmering golds and corals. Rust, copper and pink also appear, with delicate contrast across eyes, lips ..read more

Review | SVR Sebiaclear Active Teinte
Rouge Beauty

I mentioned a while ago that the maskne was really getting to me. A few weeks later, the SVR Sebiaclear Active Teinte (R283) landed on my desk. What a little gem of a product it is! Formulated to target spots, blackhead and dark marks on even sensitive skin, this was just what I needed. It contains salicylic acid to refine the skin, unclog pores and prevent bacterial from causing further blemishes (I wash my masks after every use, but still struggle with breakouts). The other potent active is 4% niacinamide, which helps to soothe any irritation, as well as keep the bacteria under control. I’v ..read more

Review | Burt’s Bees Mango Moisturizing Lip Balm
Rouge Beauty

Anyone else struggling with chapped lips from wearing a mask? Please tell me I’m not alone. I’ve tried quite a few formulas, and most of them just end up a sticky mess on the inside of my mask. A few weeks ago, I was sent one that has risen above all the others I’ve tried. Burt’s Bees sent me their Mango Moisturizing Lip Balm. The formula is 100% natural and, along with beeswax and coconut oil, it is enriched with nourishing mango seed butter to soften and deeply hydrate. It feels like a butter when it goes on, but quickly melts into the skin, leaving the lips soft and plump. I leaves my lips ..read more

I think sustainability has been on most of our minds recently, and hopefully 2021 will see more people switching to more environmentally-friendly lives. In a recent study, UK-based environmental charity, Hubbub, found that 1 in 6 people surveyed have made living more sustainably one of their new year’s resolutions. Thankfully, access to sustainable products is getting easier by the day. 10 years ago, you’d have to go searching for eco-friendly products, now they are on shelves and online stores nationwide. Obviously, sustainability is a very fluid term, for some it’s just about raw product sou ..read more

I’m loving | 5 comforting summer scents
Rouge Beauty

The slogan of the decade (bearing in mind we’re not even 13 months in), should be ‘expect the unexpected’. While we cannot control worldwide events, we can make sure we try and make ourselves feel better, despite of what is going on. Besides putting on a red lip (not so easy with masks), my favourite way to cheer my mood is to spritz some uplifting perfume. Studies have shown that scent can impact our brains on a very deep level, so while it may not be the same as therapy, it definitely is cheaper (per wear, possible not the initial outlay). These are the five that I’ve been using on rotation ..read more
