Just thought I would post a couple of pics of Hornady bullets I have recovered this past few hunts. Thought you guys might be interested. The 139SST was recovered from the fallow buck below. It was a really thick and strong animal. The shot was taken from a 7mm08 at about 90 yards in the scrub. It was recovered from the offside shoulder and weighed 90.9 grains. Deer did a dead run for about 20 metres and fell over. The second one is a 150ELDX fired from my 280ai and was taken from a red... Read more ..read more

Catherine received a letter from her interpreters today. She was imbedded with SF units operating out of Jalalabad primarily. For the fifth time in the last two years her guys have received a form letter from the State Department requesting basic information. The same information the State Department requested two years ago when we were in South Africa and three times since. Catherine of course has copies of all the letters she wrote and documentation she provided in an effort to get Visas... Read more ..read more

A little more love for the 300 HH

I really enjoy this Ruger #1. My only complaint is it just does not like to be pushed. I’ve gotten 180s up to 3100 but the groups open up to 1.5 or so and mild pressure signs. Above 2950 with a variety of powders and bullets I typically get a flyer out of five. At a sedate 2900 to 2940 or so she’ll stay at or under an inch. I tried pushing her again today and like last session she really opened up. I’ve gone through the bedding, checked for free floating and the like and can’t find any... Read more ..read more

I havnt been on in quit a while. Been darn busy at work plus I've did a little expanding of my reloading room. Still have some work to finish but I'm getting close. I went from a little 4 1/2' x 6' to 11'x 8 1/2. The little room was just fine but now that I've gotten so much more equipment and more calibers I'm loading for plus all those components I couldn't breath in that little space. First pic was my little space when i first got moved in. Hence the nice neat clean look. Second was... Read more ..read more

Hi all, I noticed the other night when I was showing my daughters boyfriends some shooting stuff and came across some targets where I had been doing load development with 62gn Varmageddon's in my 223. I completely forgot about them and noticed that with 2208 (Varget) they were grouping really nicely. I've never used them on a hunt (or outside of that load development day either for that matter), so I am interested in knowing what experience people have had and what are some of the larger... I just got my 2 dogs sights stuck mon my 44 Redhawk. What a difference! I went out in low light a few nights ago and coud see them just fine. The extra tall front is for heavy bullets. This gun will live off of 300 to 340 grains bullets driven as fast as I can drive them. It has already shown itself to be a tack driver ..read more

And yet another 45 Super

Well to dive in deeper and work with the lead free bullets I decided to just set up another gun. A couple of reasons for this but the main one is reliability. The 150 grain Cutting edge bullet is as long as most 230 grain cup and core bullets. In order to get the same performance that I see from the 230 grains the bullets have to be driven faster. With the pressure ceiling of 28,000 PSI for the 45 Super the guns have to be comped of run one of the super rare "Heavies" slide. Since there are... Read more ..read more

The turkey hunting has been pretty bad here in my little corner of Kentucky for about the last 5 years or so. You would go out and sit for several hours in the morning and be lucky to even hear a gobble, much less see one. The last bird I killed was in 2017. Well, maybe we've turned a corner on that situation. Over the last two weekends, I've heard more gobbling and seen more birds than in the last 5 or 6 years, combined. And on Saturday morning, one ol' boy made the mistake of looking for... Read more ..read more
