Also a message received today about Alan Grahame:- He has recently been suffering from flu and was locked down at home for a couple of weeks, but he is now in the care of The Acacia Care Home in Henley where they’re looking after him for the next week or so. Another brief blog (2 in a week!!) but one with news that Mike Wills is ill with covid and wont be able to be with us on Thursday. In his place he has booked Mark Aston. Mark has been to Hedsor many times before, and will fit in well as a replacement. We do of course wish Mike all the best for a good recovery. He will next be with us, all being well, on Feb 9th. Today has been the funeral of Roy Hole, founder of the BBO Big Band. The wake was held at The Hedsor Club, and many of his colleagues from the BBO and friends from the Remix Orchestra came. Some music was played, and reminiscences made ..read more

All are welcome to come, Stuart Hole writes:- “Re funeral and wake attendance of course, anyone who knew him is welcomed! We are completely at sea regarding catering numbers but hope we have it right, anyway, the bar will be open! Peter Ripper is organising the music at the Wake”. Later in the week ..read more

Good Morning December This may be the last blog before Christmas, at least the last one with “who is on this week” info. I may get another one out before the actual 25th, but that may just be for photos and a summary of the year. For today though we are able to share Geoff Swaffield’s photos from last week’s session with Lester Brown and Mark Aston. Sadly I was unable to get to Hedsor last Thursday, as the scalp damage had been prescribed an antibiotic that was difficult to source. After spending all morning on the phone trying to track it down on Thursday I finally managed to get the complete ..read more

I’m sorry, but this weeks blog is a little late, and it will be shorter than my norm. As many of you know the operation on my head hasn’t healed, and I am waiting for more NHS, I could say any NHS, as since covid restrictions getting actual medical attention is extremely difficult and time consuming. However, last weeks Hedsor Jazz session was pretty special. To have Alan Barnes depping for Ollie Wilby was a bonus joy. His collaboration with Ian Smith on the night was an absolute delight. Some of my, and Geoff Swaffield’s pictures of the evening are below.   Coming to Hedsor Jazz t ..read more

Good Morning England! As many of you are aware this coming Friday, November 18th, is “Children in Need” Day. Hedsor Jazz is going to recognise the proximity of our jazz night (THURSDAY) to this by passing round a collecting box in order for you to contribute to this good cause. So, be a good scout and be prepared to stuff money into our box. It is a somewhat suitable jazz night on Thursday 17th to do this, as one of our guests was for many years associated with daytime TV programs, and I quote from his own web  page: -   He spent eight years with the trio on ATV’s midday show ‘Lun ..read more
