Refurbishing Brass Shells

Hello all, I got into shooting 9mm pistols, just at the time finished ammo, primers and powder were hard to find. Shells however were everywhere at the range. I was basically forced to start reloading. It's been about four years now and the supplies are much better. However, I'm still reloading as shipping, taxes, insurance and hazardous material costs just about double the price per cartridge. My question for the group is, after cleaning and tumbling the shells, they come out shiny and... Refurbishing Brass Shells ..read more

Question about shipping primed brass for a give-away

I am giving away 200 pieces of primed 8X57 brass. My question is 'Can I mail primed brass cases USPS?'. I have 131 pieces 1936 - 1938 German military brass that is unfired and berdan primed, and 69 pieces 1964 (?) production Turk brass cases. The Turk ammo was sure fire but very dirty shooting. The German ammo had a few misfires, so I pulled the bullets and powder and reloaded them 1 for 1 into commercial cases with modern Boxer primers. If I can mail it I am happy to give these away... I developed a .308 box of 50, loads that differed in grains of powder incrementally by rows of ten, that i made last summer and shot today. I found that at 100 yards, the two lower loads with slower velocities, shot where I aimed while the others grouped where they landed. What did this exercise prove? For a given load of powder, given bullet weight, bullet velocity and distance to the target, accuracy depends when all these factors- twist, velocity... This stuff is kinda hard to come by. I have plenty so I'll pass on the info. Chuck is a good guy and I believe an officer in the GGCA. Bear in mind any of the 57R cases can be formed from this, as well as some others. If you're interested I wouldn't dally, I doubt it will last long. As a disclaimer, I have no interest in this beyond sharing it.
