There has been a conscious stripping away of the unnecessary and superfluous, both in terms of what we surround ourselves with and how we spend our time, to create space for more meaningful connections. In response, the Dulux Colou ..read more

Located in the heart of Houston’s eclectic Montrose neighbourhood, the Garden Bungalows at La Colombe d’Or offer visitors and locals alike an artful respite from the hum of the big city that surrounds. The site is situated across the road from La Colombe d’Or’s newly renovated historic 1920’s Mansion and new residential tower, and is intrinsically connected in both concept and history. Drawing from the aesthetic of bohemian-chic apartments in mid-century Paris, to which artists who frequented the original La Colombe d’Or in the South of France might have returned back to, these serve as a whim ..read more

Tucked down a long driveway lined with established trees that opens out onto Wairarapa Stream in Christchurch, NZ lies River House. The owners had inhabited the original house on the property for generations, and after earthquake damage decided to build a new home that took advantage of the unique riverside environment. Designed by AW Architects the new home presents itself as two distinct gable forms connected via a small glazed entrance. The main wing and deck facing the stream is perched above the ground on piles to allow for potential floodwater to flow underneath. The second wing is offse ..read more

The project has been coined from the Italian word “nido” meaning bird’s nest or kindergarten, so fitting for a project that developed from its mid-twentieth century migrant history in the area of Melbourne’s Princes Hill which borders Carlton. The home was purchased as a desire to return to the original place of origin when the client’s grandparents first migrated from Italy to Australia. This journey has been an exploration between Angelucci architects and builder, Belarte Building to explore the opportunities possible in small living in the city. Wandering Walls Bed and Breakfast

On an ocean front mountain top between tall grasses and acacia forests, rugged curvaceous walls blur the boundaries between architecture and landscape to define public and private spaces of an 8 room Taiwan retreat. The retreat, thus named Wandering Walls, is a building where the walls “wander” throughout like flowing ribbons. The remote location is susceptible to gale-force winter winds, sea salt and had no road access prior to construction. Furthermore, the lack of skilled construction labor and the shoestring project budget drove the decision to use cast concrete for its climatic endurance ..read more

Integrity is at the heart of Ripponlea House, designed as a place that embodies a sense of connection, presence and calm by Luke Fry Architecture. While the initial brief for the residence was two storeys, Luke Fry, founder and director of his eponymous practice, recommended focusing on quality over quantity via a single level instead, culminating in a forever home for a young family that promises high functionality for decades to come. Built in the early 1900s, the semi-detached brick home sits on a 240sqm site in a tree-lined cul-de-sac in a beautiful pocket of Ripponlea, Melbourne Australia ..read more
