What a year it has been…. & its not over yet! Wherever I go the term ‘Fatigue’ seems to make its way into the conversation. Personally I feel like the stress of the last few years is really starting to take its toll. Thank goodness summer is on its way (as I write this on a rainy Auckland day!) along with some fresh beauty inspo. In the mean time here are some products I love to brighten you up. A new Mascara is always something to write about & when I saw the large fluffy brush on the Bare Minerals Maximist mascara wand, I knew it was one I needed to try. Turns out it ticks all the b ..read more

Its hard to comprehend that Auckland is into its 12th week of lockdown. Thats twelve weeks of no shops, no restaurants, no socialising & for many (me included) no work. If you read my earlier blog, you would have heard me lamenting the hardship of a months worth of home detention…. & here we are almost eight weeks later! Luckily us Aucklanders have been gifted the excitement of takeaways & small social gatherings outdoors, but the most important thing for many is those ubiquitous two words “Click & Collect’ which means we can actually (sort of) go shopping for something other ..read more

My shopping List

As Auckland heads into week five of hard lockdown, my shopping list gets longer & longer. Theres only so much money I can spend at Farro Fresh & my trips to the Chemist Warehouse are becoming less & less exciting. All of a sudden I seem to have three semi-dry mascaras in my makeup bag, my Advanced Night Repair is on its last legs & Im scraping the dregs from my tube of Clinique Tinted Moisturiser (which I apply religiously- even on my most blue lockdown days) Even my Art Supplies are dwindling & trust me not to stock up when I kept hearing about rumours of a lockdown. I di ..read more

I think that Mascara is THE essential beauty product & finding a great one can literally change your life! But how confusing can it be going through the process of shopping for that great mascara in the endless isles of Mecca or Sephora? Well heres a few recommendations from the Makeup Guru & goodness knows I have sampled a few mascaras in my time….. Tips- For the record a good mascara should last you at least three to four months. When I get a new mascara I always keep the old one to use on my bottom lashes, as you only need a hint of mascara underneath the eye. Old clean wands are a ..read more

The first pure mineral powder I ever used was one by jane iredale. I was back stage at NZ Fashion Week (2007… I think!?) & we were using jane iredale Pressed Mineral Base on a huge group of models with all different skin types. I still remember the wonder of seeing how one simple product could act as a foundation & powder, creating a beautiful, satiny base with the simple sweep of a brush! Since then Minerals have literally taken over the beauty world. Over the years I have tried so many new products from this stunning brand & they are always natural, easy to use & most of all ..read more

The New Flawless Finish

Ok… so I have a brand new Website & this is my first brand new beauty blog! What better way to start than with a brand new foundation.. I have been doing makeup long enough to say that the first foundation I ever used was Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish. This iconic product had a very different look & feel way back in the 80’s… It came in a burgundy compact (adorned with a gold Arden signature) & contained a cake makeup like no other. Applied with a damp sponge you could achieve a sheer yet complete coverage, or alternatively you could create a perfect ‘mask’ of foundation which wa ..read more

What do I use this for?

This blog was inspired by a conversation I had with an old friend who told me she had recently spent $650 at the Bobbi Brown counter (great choice!) but had absolutely no idea about how to use any of the cosmetics she had purchased. My friend Annie, who is in her 50′s & requires very little makeup, felt she needed an update so headed to the Bobbi Brown where she had her makeup done (& loved it) then purchased a selection of products to replicate the look. I liken this situation to a trip to the hairdressers, when you walk out feeling a million dollars but can never achieve the sa ..read more

Aloha! I wrote this story a few years ago, pre the Pandemic. My family & I just adore Hawaii as it has a special place in our hearts… I hope that one day we can return. Back in October I was in Honolulu, where the weather was hot & balmy with warm trade winds blowing gently every day. A Hawaiian routine involves swimming, surfing, shopping & relaxing, plus of course trying out new beauty products! Here are a few things that I have been using lately that really came in handy during my time in the tropics & with New Zealand headed towards a warm hot summer, why not add these prod ..read more
