I'm on a tank and filter cleaning mission. Do you have a brush or something else that does it all? I don't have Lily Pipes, but stock Oase inlet/ outlet and those things get really gunky inside! I discovered this weekend that the Inline Taps on my filter hoses get really dirty as well. God I sound like a clean freak. I am not I assure you! Anyone tried those mini bottle brushes from Amazon ..read more

COMMERCIAL FISH FOOD - USA brands
UK Aquatic Plant Society

Howdy. For all the Americans in the forum. My sister is in California studying, and she'll come down toArgentina in a few weeks. I need some fish food, the costs here in LATAM are obscene, but she has no idea and the dude at PETCO likely won't either. I need a relatively cheap brand and type of food, that will be consumed by Nannostomus w/ their tiny mouths. Summer is over and with it, mosquito larvae, and since with the Apistogramma fry I now have a ton of fish, foraging for them is just... Read more ..read more

Question/Help: No or minimal tech nano tank
UK Aquatic Plant Society
by PlantMan216

Hello all! Id like to start up a nano tank that that has minimal to no tech and am curious on info from people who have created successful ones. I currently have 2 nano cubes, one looks like a 0.5-1 gal and another about 5-7 gal. The mini id like to have nothing but maybe a light. As for the larger I could add a mini hang on back or possible canister filter with light. Ideally want to keep everything as minimal and cost effective as possible. Let me know and info, mistakes you've learned... Read more ..read more

Murdannia Keisak help, yellowing old leaves with small holes
UK Aquatic Plant Society

I've only had this stem plant for a few days and it's the only plant that's showing signs of struggle. The older leaves are yellowing and the new leaves are green but have small black holes. (Holes are also on the old leaves as well). Other plants such as Java fern, anubias, monte carlo, hygrophila pinnatifida, Vallisneria nana etc are all showing green healthy growth. Is this a sign of Nitrogen and potassium deficiency? I haven't started dosing ferts yet (taking advice that I shouldn't... Read more ..read more

Hi everyone, I kept fish about 20 years ago and have just bought a new tank (Ciano Aqua 80) to reignite the hobby. This site has been invaluable in my research so far; I think I've read more posts from Darrel than I have emails from my boss! Anyway, I plan this to be the beginning of less lurking and more active participation ..read more

Biomaster NEW Prefilter Tube
UK Aquatic Plant Society

I fitted one of these the other day together with some new foams. As expected it doesn’t appear to have made any difference to the flow rate on my 350. Perhaps though the flow rate won’t drop so quickly between Prefilter *cleaning? The new tube certainly looks the part though compared to the afterthought original?! ? * My fault I know, but I admit I don’t clean it as often as I should. Next up is some coarser Prefilter foams. Anyone seen any at a good price ..read more

Ripple Tank - Plane Waves I might have put this discussion over in the Hardware & DIY section, but I think the aquascape evolution might be interesting, so I'm posting here as a journal instead. Roughly how long does emersed moss take to transition to submerged form?
UK Aquatic Plant Society

I attached weeping moss to parts of my hard scape but it came in emersed form. Some moss is on the wood which is closer to the light whereas moss on the lava rocks is partially shaded by the java fern trident hanging over it. How long roughly does it take for it to transition to submerged form? Tank: 40cmx25cmx25cm Light: Chihiros A401 (extended 20cm above water and dimmed to 50% intensity) 8hr period Temperature: 23-24c pH: 7.5 Substrate: Tropica Aquasoil and Miracle gro root tabs Ferts...
