Green thread or beard algae.

I have a 100gal tank that has been running for years. It has CO2 injection, and liquid ferts. Lights on 9hr only. A few Nerite snails and a SAE (more for looks). I never had any algae to be concerned of. About a year ago I planted Pogo Helferi to be used as a foreground plant (had open area before). I keep getting beard algae between the Helferi plants. I pull out clumps every week or so. You do not really notice it, but it is there between the plants. Have to "rake" my fingers... Green thread or beard algae ..read more

Wondering if adding crushed coral (cc) would benefit our planted aquariums. My water is neutral ph at 7.2 but I'm not sure about the kh or gh. If you'd add cc, how much would you suggest for a 155gal system? Thanks in advance ..read more

Trap snails with cabbage! ????
Aquatic Plant Forum

So a bunch of ramshorn snails went feral in my porcelain fish bowl and started to eat all of the new growth on my foxtail, sword plant and the tropical lily. This is an unfortunate recent development in the past few weeks. They have no interest in the North American frogbit or the crypts ?‍♀️ Someone mentioned trapping snails with a piece of boiled cabbage, and it worked! Within an hour the ramshorn snails swarmed the cabbage. I simply removed the cabbage... Trap snails with cabbage ..read more

Damage Risk During Earthquake?
Aquatic Plant Forum

Here's a question I never thought I'd ask: How worried do I have to be about short-term and long-term damage to my tank from vibrations caused by an earthquake? I'm from New York City and watching 30 gallons of water sway back and forth during a 4.8 scale tremor was a brand-new experience for me, yesterday. Any Californians out there who deal with this on a regular basis ..read more

Do those Marimo balls look dead to you? - Help needed
Aquatic Plant Forum

Hello, First time posting on this forum so I hope I'm using the correct section. I've owned 3 Marimo balls for a couple of years now. They did great for quite some time, "dancing" and all but their condition started to worsen last summer (it probably got too hot in my apartment) and it's not gotten any better since. Back then, I noticed the presence of a green algae forming on the gravel and shells at the bottom of the vase. So I tried to change their water more often, clean the rocks by...
