Low Tannins Wood

I am in the process of converting my 260gal reef tank to a high tech planted tank and will be purchasing rock and wood in a few weeks. I will be using Dragon Stone because I really like the look of that stone a lot. Very unique looking stone IMO. As far as wood goes, this is where I am having a hard time determining the type of wood. Coming from the reefing community I am a big fan of crystal clear water. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of wood out there releases a lot of tannins turning... Low Tannins Wood ..read more

Howdy, I've had my 20g tall set up for about two weeks now and I've been fighting to lower the pH below 7.0. All my other parameters are good, I test them on a 3 day basis right now. I've been adding Seachem Acid Buffer daily (differing doses, but 2<x<6 grams). My gH hasn't budget at around 10* while my kH has dropped from 11* to 7*, as of yesterday. I want to keep cardinal tetras, M. remirazi (German rams), and neocardinia spp., all of which require a slightly acidic environment... Seiryu stone.... I think I've made a big mistake ..read more

In researching this forum, I've determined that I want to try the Ultralife brand to rid my tanks of BGA. However, I have found two differently labeled Ultralife products that seem to be similar. One product seems to be marketed specifically toward BGA (their "Blue Green Algae Remover, which I've seen listed as product "AULBGR"), but is not currently listed on their website, while the? other is their "Blue Green Slime Stain Remover" (referred to on their site as "BGSSR"), which, while very... Has anybody mixed Eco-Complete with a nutrient rich aquasoil?

I've got a 125 gallon that I'm going to change into a planted tank once I save up a bit. I was originally going to do just fluval stratum, but its too expensive for me to do a tank of this size with it. Eco-complete was also recommended as a cheaper substitute, however after reading about how long it takes to build up nutrients in the substrate I was considering mixing it 50/50 with fluval stratum. Has anyone done anything similar? What was your experience ..read more
