It was a successful debut weekend for 15-year-old Anthony Martella in the FEL Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), where he became the youngest driver to compete in an SCCC event and finished on the podium in his first race. Martella made the jump from karts to cars this season, running full-time in USF Juniors and part-time in the SCCC. The two virtual one-make series provided an exciting season finale at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as the Constructor’s Championship was decided in the final race. Last weekend marked the third weekend of the 2024 race season at Sunset Speedway. The track celebrated its annual Spring Velocity weekend, taking place on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19, with Sunday’s Big Z Memorial Race, for the Hot Rod Division, headlining the card to honour the late Bill Zardo Sr. For the single-car time trials, Rick Spencer-Walt (No. 8SR) timed in fastest, driving for car owner Paul Bogensberger Sr. In Zardo’s name, it was twin 46-lap features for the Hot Rod division, with the lowest combined result from both features determining an overall winner. MILLGROVE, ON – On May 17, fans entering the gates at Flamboro Speedway were greeted with discount admissions. They were also treated to a great show by the drivers. Canadian Vintage Modifieds Mike Podd led flag-to-flag to win the first feature ahead of Jeremy Riopelle, TJ Marshall, Jae Pepin, and Rodney Rutherford. Scott Tonelli ran just outside the top-five for sixth in front of Steve Murdoch and Maddux Pepin. Sam Trewolla did not finish. INNISFIL, ON – When it comes to Sunset Speedway, there’s something about Rick Spencer-Walt and the 1/3 mile semi-banked oval that just seem to click together. It proved to be a match once again on Saturday night, as he won the season opener for the Just Foam It OSCAAR Modifieds.
