J-Word Boolit ID?

I have acquired a few J-Words that I haven't ID'd yet. They are .308 diameter, military, 145 gr., with a maroon colored painted tip. As can be seen in the photo they are a closed based tracer at a minimum. What other properties they may possess is unknown. They do attract a magnet, but so does a standard .30 tracer. Any ideas? Winchester Factory 303 Brit Ammo

Here is one from way out in Left Field: I have Winchester load data that indicates they (at least once upon a time) loaded 150gr bullets on top of 748 powder in 303 British. I was curious to here from the folks in the know how their mileage is/was with Winchester factory ammo. I have been loading with BL-C2 with very good results, but I find myself with a fair chunk of 748 that could use a good home (it didn't fair well with my 7.5 MAS loads). The table is open ..read more

Lee Enfield .303 1898 Royal Irish Constabulary Carbine

Here for your perusal is my Lee-Enfield .303 RIC 1898 carbine serial number 6648 with bayonet; RIC inventory number 4303 with acceptance date 6-04. Bore/rifling rates 8/10 so it should be quite accurate; can't wait to take it to the shooting range! 10,000 RIC carbines were converted from obsolete British military Lee Enfield and Lee Metford carbines in 1903 and 1904. Where the British carbines had full-length stocks, the RIC wanted to be able to mount bayonets (specifically, 1888 pattern Metford bayonets). To accommodate this, the carbines were modified with a sleeve to increase the muzzle to ..read more

Anybody Up To Speed on Mauser Feeding Geometry?

In this case, it's a pre-64 Model 70 .30-06 but same family. No issues at all running ball '06 or other spitzers, but the Accurate 31-194D round (ish) nose is giving me some problems. The load feeds fine off the right side of the mag, but from the left, the bullet crosses over to the right and the meplat jams up in the extractor cutout at the back of the chamber. My Ruger 77MKII / Hawkeye eats the same load like popcorn. I have access to a few other Mauser-family '06's I can try it in, but this one's frustrating, as that bullet was supposed to be my "One to Rule Them All", and not being abl ..read more

Beat to death in other places is 303 British Head Space Gauges VS SAAMI. It would seem the general consensus was, when shooting old LE - ArrowMark was the go to gauge company, but they have not been available for a long while. Is there a current "best" recommendation? Thanks in advance ..read more

6.8 SPC ladder results

I ran a ladder from 24 grains to 26 grains of IMR 3031 on 140 grain cast bullets in the AR15. The groups at the end tightened up vertically but not horizontally. I seemed to be getting right drift and not sure if its the bullets or me and the rest. It doesn't quite fit in the lead sled because of the grip hitting one of the adjustment knobs. At 26 grains I got 3 in the money and 2 drifted off. The first two were in the white and 3, 4 and 5 hit center. Bullets are WW lead about a hardness of 11 and water quenched and about a 16 I think. They are powder coated and quenched right out of the oven ..read more

Got my Brownells news letter. Reduce recoil on a ar15. April fools joke???? They have no recoil to begin with. Maybe just a sign of the times where most shoot only ar's. I wonder how many shots it would take, shooting a 338 Mag, before the flinch like they were shocked with a taser ..read more
