Hello, I've been doing street performances recently, and I'm wondering if something should work before I by the remaining gear.
So, I'm a classical guitarist, and if I hook up one of these (which requires phantom power):

...to a battery powered phantom power module, then i a female XLR into that up to an amp, if that will work. Here's a diagram if it's confusing to you:
clip on mic --> standard xlr --> phantom power adapter --> xlr female to 1/8" --> amplifier
thanks in advance ..read more

Hi,
many digital distributors offer to release cover songs...
( like Landr: https://blog.landr.com/how-to-release-cover-songs/ )
I just want to make sure, that my cover is really a "cover" and don't get rejected.
As far as i know:
- not using samples from the original song
- no mashup
- no remix
- sing the vocal by myself
- don't change lyrics, melody, song structure
Questions:
1) do i have to take over every element of the song? eg. cowbells in the background, risers, noise lifters, breakbeats, ...? Or only the main elements like bass, melody?
2) how much "effects" and percussions can ..read more

Now that we’ve apparently reached the day when an HKA-modded 626 is being listed for as much as a used TR8s (wtf?), which would you prefer soundwise if your only interest was 80s sample-based drums? I don’t really need 90% of what the 8s/6s have to offer, but the interface does seem like it might be more user friendly.
Basically, which unit does that 80s Linn/DMX/707 digital vibe better? Or is there another sub-$500 hardware unit that bests them both in this department? (I’d still want a step input feature, as my pre-teen (non-musician) kid wants to learn to use it as well and I think this wo ..read more

The Modal thread got me thinking about a list of out of production synths that are considered unserviceable due lack of parts or otherwise. Which ones are inevitable to become mear oversized doorstops and should possibly be avoided ..read more

no sound or very small and dirstortioned signal on the left channel SD-1.
I got SD-1, which was purchased as a donor for the VFX-SD II screen, but I decided to restore its functionality:
Before purchasing, the SD-1 was in screen test mode (no signs of operation or sound output, only the ability to print different characters on the screen).
After a revision of the main mainboard, the connection of the MCU Motorolla MC68000P10 PIN#48 which one leg was bent and did not fit into the socket.
after that, keyboard calibration errors were detected and corrected; which is described here:
Then, after st ..read more

To people who’ve released their music on vinyl - how did/do you know that it made sense to release it at that point? And how did/do you estimate how many to make?
It’s seems common wisdom has it that 300 units is the sweetspot for small artists / labels, especially new artists. Less than that and you’ll have to sell each unit for more than people can pay. 500 units is cheaper per unit, but it seems few people actually sell this much. I’ve searched all over for stats on how many copies an album or 12” sells these days but can’t find any.
I can imagine a label having a method of ”once you have ..read more
