April is a month that's annually consumed with Spring time duties for me, primary in them is preparing for next year's heating season. It's a job that I feel 'on the clock' to start and finish. I don't like to be caught up in firewood collecting or splitting much outside of the early part of May because temperatures get uncomfortable and other hobbies.. like trout fishing!.. start to become a much more effective and enjoyable. I don't want to cut...

This is not a thread about big fish. Nor is it a thread about big numbers of fish. It is about who I fished with.
My dad is 77, has two titanium shoulders and both hips replaced twice. He walks with two canes, has very limited mobility and still wants to fish. My dog Chuck is 16 1/2, has arthritis in his left hind leg and also has limited mobility.
I knew today would be a challenge and it didn't really matter if I caught anything or not. I wanted to enjoy the day with Chuck and help...

Massachusetts Lake Trout State Record Broken Twice in One Week
Since the Wachusett Reservoir reopened to the public for fishing on Saturday, April 6—as it does every year on the first Saturday in April—lake trout have been biting exceptionally well. During the spring, lake trout move into shallow water, sometimes as shallow as 3 to 10 feet, in pursuit of forage fish, thus making them more susceptible to shore fishermen who flock the reservoir come that first Saturday of...

Memorable “Opening Day” of Trout Season 2024
Due to the extremely high water on the official Opening Day of Trout Season on Saturday, April 6, I opted to wait until the flood waters receded before venturing out on Tuesday, April 9, for my “Opening Day.” Offhand I believe this was the first time I’ve missed the first day in forty-five years, possibly ever.
The forecast called for an unseasonably warm temperature of about 45-degrees overnight followed by...

A Return to a Gem
Yesterday, I left in the pre-dawn hours, headed to a stream not fished for a few years. It’s a small, scenic freestoner that is fun to fish. People who read my posts may consider me to be only interested in pursuing large trout, but I also enjoy going to little streams, where there is little to no chance of a big fish. Due to low water the past two years, I hadn’t fished that stream and wasn’t sure what to expect, but with many streams still...

I made a post not long ago about the sale prices on spinning reels and charge a shipping fee mean while you pay full price free shipping. I decided to look else where. IDK i felt being taking advantage of. I was raised to fair and honest to others.
Anyhow I watch and listen to a couple you tubers on reviews Trout fishing tackle mostly. I always let it fly by pass over my head where they get such good deals. They mentioned a few big stores I had issues with and no longer do business with...

One of our local ponds is always stocked and a good spot locally especially with the mountain creeks being questionable. We will hit them next weekend. The issue is that the local pond is lined with trees and brush and actual spots for a kid to fish are limited. Probally 6-8 total. For the last 15years these accessible spots are filled by grown men Friday night and they sit there all night to have that spot. It always bugged me as I saw family after family walk around trying to find a...
