Hi all, Am an academic - but in a different non-science field. I read many things about problems with pressure to publish in certain fields of biology & medicine (grad students who need x number of articles to graduate and so forth, Chinese article mills, predatory journals, etc). I have an interest in how SIBO links to several other conditions such as gastritis, acid reflux, IBS, and so forth. But I'm finding it difficult to tell where the reliable literature begins and the bullshit faux-health crap leaves off. I'd appreciate people telling me what studies/journals would be considered re ..read more

Anyone familiar with esoguard precancerous screening procedure? What are your thoughts on it? The procedure inserts a swallowable balloon that goes past the lower esophageal sphincter and its inflated and collects cells. Any validity to this test or risks of the LES being damaged from the balloon? submitted by /u/medic7000 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey GIs. Wonduring what your opinion is on telling pt with hiatal hernia and weight lifting is? Should they refrain from heavy lifting? Ab exercises? I just got an endoscopy that found a hiatal hernia. Found sliding small hiatal hernia, displacing the gej to 40cm from the incisor, with hiatal narrowing at 42cm from the incisor. Hill grade 2, AFS 3 flap valve. Will weights make it worse? submitted by /u/Apa52 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello I’m currently finishing my M2 year and have started to contemplate my specialty decision. It seems like I’m set on either IM/Peds/EM but if I go IM or peds (especially peds) I’d likely shoot for GI (fingers crossed). Considering that I have to choose kids vs adults before choosing GI/no GI first, how do I choose? I appreciate any help in advance submitted by /u/KirklandLobotomy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi, My young brother (21M) suffered a severe bout of what it’s still considered to be indeterminate colitis that got complicated with uncontrollable bleeding and required emergent subtotal colectomy with end ileostomy on May last year. He has been without proper immunosuppressive treatment up until recently due to a combination of treatment failures (infliximab) and post surgery infections. Now, he’s been found in a CT a marked unilateral ureterohydronephrosis caused by a mass consisting of fibrotic tissue and adenopathies in the retroperitoneum. This was not present in September last year. H ..read more
