I am in the process of obtaining letters. I know I need a PD letter and a couple GI faculty letters. How many GI letters are needed. I have am IM continuity clinic preceptor who would write a strongest letter due to our closer relationship. Would that letter outweigh any GI letter? 1.) How many GI faculty? Thoughts on name recognition vs. how well they know/write you a strong letter. Obviously I think how well support you means more, but if one well known faculty is known to write a... Working on some GI research projects (NIS database analysis and Meta-analysis) and have many ideas, but need help with writing, data extraction, and frankly can not take full responsibility on all of them. Willing to discuss them and collaborate on them longitudinally with SDN users interested in GI. I would work alongside you on these projects and put in dozens of hours alongside you but would offer you first author so long as I am second author for any journal. You can keep any first... Recently had a patient with obstructing CBD stone, patient was getting sicker. GI couldn't ERCP for another day but both surgery and GI said to hold off on perc chole unless absolutely necessary as it would effect the ERCP. Neither GI nor surgery were exactly clear on why decompressing the GB would negatively effect the ERCP, so I'm asking here. Thanks ..read more

Chronic cough question from Pulmonologist to GI doctors
Student Doctor Network - Gastroenterology
by NewYorkDoctors

Hello GI doctors I have an honest question about community GI setups regarding getting esophageal manometry and 24 hour pH probe Bravo studies. As a pulmonologist I see a lot of chronic cough. After I have gone through the checklist of asthma/COPD/bronchiectasis/structural lung disease and done all of my PFTs, FENOs, bronchoprovocation testing, and CT chests, I am often still confronted with GERD I barium esophagrams and at times I get lucky with GERD but this is not always the case... Anyone else curious to know if GI alliance will go down?

Saw a job opening below. GI alliance ruined so many private practice opportunities for the newer GI fellows and young attendings. After the golden parachute for the retiring physicians, good to see they are unable to replace all the openings. I know GI alliance is too big to fail but I would love to see them receding and more private practice options in Texas and other metros... Read more ..read more

Matched at a place with low scope volume, how can I prep for private practice?
Student Doctor Network - Gastroenterology

I matched at a place where fellows graduate with 600 total endoscopies including both EGD and colonoscopy. My goal is to go into private practice but unfortunately can't control the match algorithm. How can I make the best of the time I do have during fellowship to get additional volume/get good at endoscopy? Is there any other way for me to practice colonoscopies or get additional volume? Am I doomed to academics forever by ending up at a low volume place or will I be able to still escape... Read more ..read more

Hey Guys, i am in the process of interviewing for 2025 GI job. I was wondering if anybody had the latest MGMA data about median/75th percentile wRVU and and the median/75th percentile compensation. I am located in the Midwest. I am being offered 57wrvu for 8200 of work in small community hospital in a rural area and i know that this rate is being offered by university/academic places . I just don't want to be taken for a ride here. When i told them that this was a low rate , they said that... Read more ..read more
