M62: Solid Lifter Conversion. What material for pins?

Question: What material should I use to make "Solid Lifter" pins/dowels to replace the hydraulic lifter in the M62 lifter housing? I was thinking of using O1 Drill Rod (8mm diameter? I haven't measure lifter housings yet). Unless you suggest a better material to use that I can still cut and grind to size. The Long Story: I hurt the Supercharged M60B44, spun a rod bearing on cyl #3 at roughly 8200rpm. Dropped the pan, found the two bearing shells seized to the rod journal and spun in the big end of the rod. Remove the stuck bearing shells and the crank journal wasn't scored. I decided to gam ..read more

Cold Air Intake

Has anybody put a cold air intake on a 1998 E39 540i? (M62) with a build date of 9/98 or sooner? I have a 2001 that I was able to pretty easily DIY a Dinan one. I called Dinan and they told me a buijd date of 10/98 and on up to 2003 would work with the same CAI I put on my 2001 Problem is my build date on my ‘98 is 4/98 I was hoping he could tell me what was stopping that from being able to happen as in perhaps a small modification I needed to do or something like that, but he was clueless (on my ‘01 you have to move the secondary air pump and Dinan provides a bracket) He didn’t know. I’m ..read more

My goal is to run at or close to 500 wheel torque on stock turbos due to transmission limitations. I plan to get a motiv flex fuel module and flash mhd flex fuel on stage 2+. How close can I get to this goal with inlets and e85 mix? What’s the highest ethanol content I can run with only an upgraded fuel pump? Would I need any other supporting mods to get closer to my goal, such as an exhaust? Mods: Arm catless downpipes Arm 5” fmic VRSF dual cone intakes VRSF aluminum upper charge pipe Tial Bov ..read more

X6m f86 with n63tu block

Guys, hi! I'm the happy owner of an X6M for over a year now. Owning this car brings me a lot of joy. Recently, while replacing the oil separator valves, it was discovered that the car has a non-original engine block. It should be an S63TU, but it's an N63TU instead. As far as I know, the difference between these blocks is only that the S63 has forged elements, while the N63 does not. My question is: At the moment, I'm running MHD Stage 1 and have 680 horsepower. I'm very interested in knowing what maximum load this block can withstand. Are there any projects on forums with these engines? Look ..read more

Siemens MS41 - In need of some basic informations (new to MS41 tuning)

Aye! I am new to the MS41 and while I read as much as I could find online, there are still some basic informations I am missing. Some examples would be: - Difference between "Ignition Timing - Base" and "Ignition Timing - Base 2" (I assume one is for partial load and one for WOT?) - What are the factors for the ECU to switch between open and closed loop - My rev.-limiter is set to ~ 7k, but the tables only go up to 6400 rpm - is there a way to tune the last 600 rpm or does the ECU just calculate and upscale I would love to have a document describing the function/conditions of every table/me ..read more
