March April 2024 Happy New year my fellow fishing community ! We are in the tail end of the winter fishing season with hopeful warmer temperatures on the horizon. The typical wet weather will keep our local rivers fluctuating up and down. When the rivers rise the dirty water is a pain to fish in but the water will quickly come back into shape and the opportunistic fisherman will enjoy some fun days on the water to fill those remaining Chinook tags on your licence. The resident feeder Chinook salmon provide in my opinion the best table fare of the year. I really en ..read more

Summer fishing madness is still in full swing. The river mouths are swelling with species of staging salmon attempting their final journey of life. This point of the year has a certain primal energy that can be understood only by spending time on the water and acknowledging the journey in the salmon’s life. All the boat launches and the local hotspots will continue to be very busy for the next month. It’s important for everyone to be courteous and safe on the water. Know some basic rules, and remember that whoever has the right rod to the shore has the right of way. We all like to be tight to ..read more

Area 13 is in full throttle. The abundance of marine life is staging and preparing for the feeding frenzy. And for some, the final chapter of life has begun. Nowhere on earth is more powerful and unforgiving—or stunning and endlessly captivating—than the ocean. Chinooks are showing up in good numbers throughout the Johnstone Strait. Try Fish Rock Bay just off Chatham point on slack tides, as the current can be difficult to navigate. Davis Point to Sonora Point is a good tack; the Chinooks are down deep, so get those plugs down in the zone, sometimes 200′ or more. Brown’s Bay and Deepwater Bay ..read more

June is an exciting time with the arrival of warm summer vibes and fishing enthusiasts preparing for the next 4 months. June is a premier month to fish for Chinook in Area 13; however, we continue to follow catch and release protocol at this point. Up and down the coast stock projections are coming in well above last year’s numbers, so we have something to look forward to on the horizon. The coho fishery is always a treat as these pound for pound silver bullets will provide a fight to remember. They don’t tire out so be ready as your skills will be tested…I like using lighter gear when targeti ..read more

Exciting vibes are in the air as the fishing season approaches; it’s time to get our gear and boats tuned up for the adventures ahead. Update your chart plotters, sharpen your hooks, and get those engines serviced. With the March herring spawn having returned to Area 13, the abundance of marine life is trending in the right direction, and positive projections are being whispered amongst anglers in the area. The snowpack in April started slightly above historical averages on the north island, providing and insuring the nutrients in our rivers that benefit our oceans. The an ..read more

February 2022 Wow so much has happened end over the past 3 months, good and bad. I’ll get the bad out of the way first….. So after spending a little time in Las Vegas chasing the royal flush at the poker table I came home to a “RAT” problem in my boat. The problem was the rodents decided to make the Hicksy their home and nest for the winter. Did you know that a Rat can fit in a hole the size of a nickel? Well they can…. Also learned that the hoses Kingfisher uses within the build for new boats is a 50/50 composite of plastic and soy!! So the rats dull their teeth and they eat it cause ..read more

Well, I took a couple weeks off and rejuvenated the soul after 52 days straight on the west coast of Vancouver island. I had the pleasure of some good friends visiting and enjoy back to back charters in our local waters. Everyone with a boat was out enjoying adventures, truly a sight to be seen at the dinner hour with BBQ’s smoking while reels were screaming. So cool to see the life of the sport fishing community flourish with abundance. 2 chinook per day per licence was an easy attainable feat once you found the right depth. Bait was everywhere and feeders were gorging before making the journ ..read more
