High level urology problems?

Hi all-- I'm wondering what you guys consider high MDM level problems.. The Painters explained that the problem must be of such a severity that the patient needs to be stabilized or immediately taken to the hospital. But what if they are already there? What about an infected stone and the patient is at risk of becoming septic and needs a stent placed? Or possible testicular torsion? Just looking for a thread with some high level urology problem examples. Thanks ..read more

Urologic supplies

My urological practice is inquiring if we can bill for supplies like Nephrostomy bags, Urinary leg bags, foley catheter drainage bags, urinals, etc. The only article I found was from Medicare A52521 which I didn't find very helpful. I am under the impression that you are not able to bill for supplies when a procedure is done, if I understood this correctly however what about at office visits when they are supplied to the patients? Does anyone have any guidance if a urological practice can... Read more ..read more

I've read mixed opinions on this.. does the provider need to place the catheter and then irrigate in order to bill 51700? Or if my doc comes in for a consult and the catheter is already placed and they just irrigate it, is that included in the E/M? Thanks ..read more

I'm confused on how to code this procedure. Doctor did a Cystoscopy, retrograde pyelogram, ureteral stent exchange. That I understand, but.. " A new 4.8 French by 26 cm double-pigtail ureteral stent was placed into the left collecting system. Position of the stent was confirmed with fluoroscopy. Using the 6 French open-ended ureteral catheters the guidewire was passed back through the ureter and with some manipulation into the left renal pelvis. A second 4.8 French by 28 cm... Interstim..I don't understand it!

I know Interstim has been addressed so many times within this forum but my little brain just can't grasp the concept. I'm very new to billing these and obviously I'm not doing it right due to claims not getting paid. For instance, I have one that is billed: 64561 64590 95972 76000 Insurance is denying 95972 and 76000 as being bundled to 64561 and 64590. OP note says "full implant" so from the info I've looked it, the 64561 and 64590 are correct. But why is the 95972 being bundled. I did... Read more ..read more

Hi everyone, I'm a bit lost on where to find a cpt code for this procedure. My provider was called in as an assist during another surgery. They found that the spermatic cord was adhered to the scar and mesh. They dissected it free from both and then my surgeon left. 55520 is the only code I have found that is similar. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I appreciate it! Thanks ..read more

Urethral stent removal

Can a PCP bill for the removal of urethral stent that patient was unable to remove at home? Removal was done without the use of a scope or insrument. My understanding is it is an E&M, not procedure code. My provider wants to use 10120 removal of foreign body. Thanks ..read more
