Hi everyone, I remember floating through this message board many years ago, glad to see it’s still alive!!
I'm Dr. Shailen Sehgal, a full-time practicing urologist and founder of UroCoach - a free educational video library for urology topics.
Over the past year we brainstormed the most common clinical questions we get. We recently published well-organized video answers to these questions on YouTube to create UroCoach.
These videos are perfect for urology medical student education and...

Rising M4 interested in Urology. I'm curious how many publications and research is needed in order to match. I have a couple of things on my CV already but seeing the number of publications by others is somewhat discouraging. I have pretty strong ties with my home urology department but my school isn't a big research powerhouse. Thoughts on this and other things to improve my odds of matching ..read more

I am an MS3 and I am intending on applying to urology next year. I currently have 3-4 LoRs from urologists at my school. However, due to my school schedule, I am having trouble scheduling away rotations early in the summer/fall.
Do I need an LoR from an away rotation for my app if I have enough from urologists at my school? Do programs really want to see a letter from a different institution ..read more

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any experience with swapping residency positions into another program for family reasons. I am hoping to do it into a PGY2 spot.
I was just wondering how to learn about programs with vacancies and how to apply. Honestly any insight would be amazing.
I realize how hard and risky this can be, I’m just interested in people’s experiences ..read more

I'm in the middle of my 3rd year at a reputable academic MD program in the Western US. I've been considering urology during all of medical school and am at the point where I need to pull the trigger but am worried about my level of competitiveness going into my 4th year. Willing to apply very broadly but not wanting to apply with a significant risk of not matching. Would love some honest feedback.
Academics: My school is P/F for pre-clinical curriculum, though it does rank students. I ended...

I'm sure the answer to this will be "It depends on you," but I'm curious what a reasonable productivity would look like in years 1 and 2 of practice? I've interviewed with a couple places:
1) PP, large wait list for new patients, PAs run ball pain and rUTI clinics, see some minor post-ops and patients on surveillance. Current partners see either new patients in clinic or bigger post-ops (only see returns if they want to), sounds like there is plenty to go around. Set your own schedule but...

Hi guys. I am a year 2 Urology resident in the UK. My field of interest is Female and male reconstructive surgery. Academically, I am currently in the last few months of my PhD in biomaterials engineering, I have a masters in surgical sciences from the University of Edinburgh and I have a few book chapters and 6 first author papers (functional and reconstructive themed) in good journals. Due to family circumstances, I might need to move to the US which is why I have started looking at the US...
