How to Make Your Food Famous - final book cover design They say, "Don’t judge a book by its cover," but they are wrong! You should judge a book by its cover, and in fact, most of us instinctively already do. There’s good reason for this: a cover doesn’t just subtly communicate what a book is about; its purpose is also to attract the right reader (and deter those for whom it isn’t intended). You see, a book cover provides that all-important first impression on which much of its initial success greatly depends. So, it’s no wonder why many of us have a strong response and opinion about bo ..read more

During June 2023, THE hottest month of that year, I had the total honour of photographing George Hepher’s super delicious cookbook, REBEL BAKES! From day dot of the cookbook shoot, things were well, shall we say… different. The bakes were unlike anything I’d ever seen before - big, bold, over the top and utterly indulgent! The energy was electric; we all HAD to give 1000% to pull the vision for this book off and that meant giving the creation of this cookbook all our energy indeed! And of course the aforementioned heat made everything feel intense and unforgettable. In today’s blog p ..read more

ARTIFICIAL LIGHT OR NATURAL LIGHT, WHICH IS BEST FOR FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY?
The Little Plantation Blog

The question whether natural light or artificial light is better for food photographers eager to create the most gorgeous food photos, is a difficult one to answer. While natural light is my preferred personal choice as it pulls most at my heart strings and holds undeniable charm for me, after a decade of professional experience as a food photographer, I’ve come to deeply appreciate and love the beauty, versatility and reliability of artificial light. It’s made me realise that lighting preferences are inherently personal, requiring thoughtful deliberation and deep consideration of each ..read more

Ugly delicious - that’s what I’d call today’s super quick, high protein and utterly scrumptious Asian inspired noodle recipe! Let’s be real, it’s not much to look at and certain dishes just aren’t, but should that stop us from sharing them with the world? In this case, I don’t think so! I often carefully design a recipe both for taste and visuals, but after eating this on repeat pretty much the whole of March, I couldn’t find a way of a) NOT sharing it with you and b) making it prettier just for the sake of capturing better images. Adding flowers or any other fanfare would have ..read more

Potatoes are the ultimate comfort food! They are also so versatile and easy to make, plus potatoes are affordable and of course super delicious, I mean, what’s not to like?! These crispy smashed potatoes are especially comforting, combining a fluffy carb-y interior with a crispy and crunchy exterior, in short: pure BLISS! I served them with a wonderful creamy herby sauce that hints at Spring. In fact the sauce is Frankfurter Green Sauce, a regular from my teenage years living in Germany. The original sauce is not vegan, but it’s quite straight forward to veganise, as I did her ..read more
