Can't find internships as a first year

I am currently a first year ChemE student in a school in SoCal but live in Portland, OR. Besides some really competitive Intel internships, I have been unable to find any that are available to first/second-years that aren't in states like Texas. I would appreciate if anyone could tell me some other avenues to explore since an internship would really help, especially with my GPA being where it is right now. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/PubStomper04 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Because the last time I gave away a free coupon, all 100 spots were taken in less than 4 hours. I recognize that many people would enroll in the class, even if they were not interested just because it is free. I will use my last free coupon on Udemy, however, I would like to really give it to people who are interested in learning pump sizing and modeling piping systems, whether because they are studying engineering or want to grow more technical in their career. Please DM me if you want a free coupon, I will activate the coupon and email it to you once I gather a complete list of interested p ..read more

Hello! I am a fresh college grad from Canada. I am currently trying to size a PSV for a Hydrogen system. Of course, according to API regulations, I am going over all the different scenarios. However, I have only been able to find fire case relating liquid filled vessels. I want to ask, Is the fire case sizing formula the same for liquid and gas-filled vessels? If not, can someone link me to how I would go about properly approaching this problem? submitted by /u/Snoo16235 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Career advice from a VP's guest lecture

When I was a senior in college I attended a guest lecture given by a VP of a large company that many of us wanted to work for. I still think about it to this day. He didn't try to promote his company or industry - he just gave practical, honest career advice. Below are the notes I took: You own your best effort You decide if you're being productive or not Give yourself time in your role to gain a solid base in that position How well you do on early assignments will be an indicator for how well you will do on future assignments Your name Be proud of your work, enough to sign your name on it ..read more
