Hey everyone, I'm unsure if I should do an Meng or MSc. I'm currently at a non Russel group uni in my 2nd year, and deciding what I should do next. I've been averaging a first and plan on going into the engineering side rather than research. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Shot-Importance-563 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Chemical Engineer graduate wanting to pursue a career in Aerospace. Advice needed!!!

I just graduated in December 2023 with a degree in chemical engineering and a minor in mathematics. I finished with a GPA of 3.6, which I think is fairly decent. My work experience consists of a summer internship with a PVC manufacturing company, and I also worked as a student lab coach/assistant in the junior ChemE lab at my university. I am certain that I don't want to work in any of the "typical" ChemE industries (manufacturing, oil&gas, etc.) and have instead shown a lot of interest in aerospace. I know that this career path is definitely possible, I just don't know how to get there ..read more

Modeling Odor-Related Properties of Petroleum Products

Hello Reddit community, I'm working on an odor assessment project involving various petroleum products. I need to understand how properties like vapor pressure, volatility, and temperature change under different conditions. Experiments are not feasible due to cost and time constraints. I have MSDS and some general information, but these only provide properties at standard conditions. I've heard about Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for modeling these properties, but I'm unsure about its complexity for this purpose. Are there simpler or more cost-effective methods? Any resources or tools fo ..read more

Cooper Union, Purdue, and UMN for bachelor's

I'm choosing between these options for ChemE, and listing pros/cons below. I'm currently leaning towards UMN. UMN: I got the Honors college, and I can probably graduate on-time with more job experience (and 1-2 semester less in tuition) from co-ops, and can probably pick up double majors in CS+Chemistry if I stayed for another summer/semester from AP Credits. Easier to transfer to other engineering fields. Better location. Total cost: 35-37k/yr. Purdue: Co-op available, but fewer credits accepted from APs so I'd likely have to stay for >4 year if I did co-ops. More-reputation in general en ..read more

Trying to decide between University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa campus) and University of South Carolina (Columbia campus) for chemical engineering. I’ve been accepted into both the SCHC and UA’s honors college. Prices are comparable for both schools. Any insight into differences between the two chemE programs would be much appreciated!! submitted by /u/RecordCurious1940 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
