International Mortgage Options?

A friend that’s looking at moving to Portugal and there’s this wild 2% early mortgage repayment fee that’s putting her off. It seems standard for domestic banks to charge for early repayment in fixed rate mortgages so I was wondering if anyone knows of international options to avoid this? Early repayment fees seem predatory submitted by /u/DukeDamage [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

AIMA phishing or not?

Many who applied for Article 89.2 in AIMA today received a letter stating that they must pay a fee within a short period, or their application will be annulled. Have you seen such a letter? If yes, do you think it's phishing or not? Because when you call Aima, they say they know nothing about it, and the director also said he knows nothing about it. But no one has received such letters before, and the official links and domains look quite realistic. If you received such a letter, what do you think? submitted by /u/springbaba [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Public buses in rural areas (aitc.cimcavado.pt case)

Hi everyone! I'm staying in Rio Caldo for a month and want to understand how public buses work in this area. Specifically, I want to travel to Braga from Rio Caldo occasionally without using an expensive taxi. I found a public bus provider that has bus stops in this area https://cimcavado.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=cac8356988314288936e997ce96ecbe6, but I'm confused about the ticket system. It says that I can buy tickets at sales centers, which are only in big cities: https://aitc.cimcavado.pt/postos-de-venda/ My question is, can I buy tickets online or when boarding the b ..read more

Parents out there - Portuguese language.

Hello folks, Just wondering how (and how early) did you introduce your kid to Portuguese language. I speak to my 1.2 y/o in Portuguese almost all day long while my wife speaks to him in Spanish which is our mother tongue. I don't know if we're screwing-up his learning by not sticking to just one language. If he lives here he needs to speak the local language, there's no other way around it, but is it too soon? Any words of advice?. Thank you! submitted by /u/4thAttemptOf [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can someone explain to me like to a toddler how I get my NIF?

I want to get my NIF in Lisbon. My boyfriend keeps assuring me, that he can be my representative since I am a non-resident. The articles I found online say that you are to pay 89€ if you apply online, nothing if you do it in person at one of the finanças. For a bit of context: I am stressing out right now since I am supposed to start my job there in 3 weeks. I will be moving there in 1 week. My boyfriend claimed to be able to take care of this for a month now but I still have no appointments, hence the stress. Now apparently he claims that I only need to go to a notário, which will be quick ..read more

What the fuck is the deal with lawyers in Portugal?

Small rant : I've been here 4 years, unfortunately had to deal with lawyers quite a few times. Every single one I've contracted has been a complete waste of time. Half-assing their job, and not answering/returning calls for months. Unless of course if it is time to get paid, then it's 5 calls per hour and suddenly they have all the time in the world to deal with me. The first experience was as we had arrived a few months before. I think there are a few thing I didn't understand yet, but I clearly remember having asked about her rate (pay?), and she answered "well see about that later". Later ..read more

Visiting PT while waiting for D8 Visa

I applied for a D8, non-resident visa and it can take up to two months for me to get it. I more than qualify for it but don't want to wait, would it be possible (or a problem) to go to Portugal while I wait? Once they approve it, I would then fly back to my country to get the visa stamped... I'm also a dual-passport holder, so could I enter PT using the other passport with a tourist visa while I wait? I already visited Portugal a few times before with it... submitted by /u/MikeGriss [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
