New single from PROBLEMS, Black Hole In The Ocean, featuring deaths dynamic shroud

I made the instrumental for "Black Hole in the Ocean" and could immediately hear Tech singing on it. I'm happy he (unprompted) put the word "problem" in the lyrics, as it appears in about half of the songs on this new record. The song is extremely complicated musically, and uses some of my favorite production tricks and ideas that I've been shaping and perfecting for years — including my maximalist percussion racks where I program a complex polyphonic drum pattern and load it into a bank with 128 samples in it, spreading all the hits across all the samples before slicing it into audio and pri ..read more

Blvck Hippie release Streetlights single and is going on tour!
The Record Machine

Blvck Hippie is an Indie Rock Band from Memphis, TN tryna show Black kids they can be weird too.  Blvck Hippie makes VHS-inspired music for anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider. By melding an emo sensibility with an indie rock aesthetic Blvck Hippie creates tunes for getting unstuck, existing weirdly, and finding togetherness. “Streetlights”captures that feeling of driving home alone and getting caught up in an avalanche of your own thoughts. It is reminiscent of many nights Shaw had in 2017 driving home from open mic nights spiraling out while feeling crushingly alone and lost. Liste ..read more

Dinner TIme releases the latest single/video, One More Hour, from the upcoming album Technicolor.

Just like the allure of the casino draws gamblers back in for one more spin, the new Dinner Time single “One More Hour” quickly grabs the listener’s ears with an infectious bassline and locks them in for the entire ride. Songwriter Ian Buford’s lyrics showcase a depraved scene, far removed from the glamorous image of Vegas high rollers. We are in the world of backroom cash-only tables, rinse and repeat slots, and gas station scratch offs; one more hour - one more big win to break even. The band’s Strokes influence is on full display, now infused with psychedelic undercurrents and gonzo wisdom ..read more

PROBLEMS releases second single Shadow In The Dark video
The Record Machine
by Nathan Reusch

PROBLEMS follows in the tradition of genre-breaking performers like DEVO and the Talking Heads, whose carefully honed, highly idiosyncratic visions expanded pop music's expressive capabilities. His latest work, Shadow in the Dark, was written on a cold day in Paris while he stood in the shadow of the Arc de Triomphe. “I love big structures and marvels of engineering. I love cranes and bridges and the like, and I started thinking about the story of Noah’s Ark and wondered if there were any Pekingese dogs on it. Musically it’s super influenced by Danse Macabre era The Faint, the b ..read more

Hear the new single from Atlanta indie/psych quintet Dinner Time "Shoes 2"
The Record Machine
by Nathan Reusch

Dinner Time’s latest, Shoes 2, is a moody trip - cycling back and forth between two extremes. Introspective lyrics and mellow guitars layered over a laid-back groove on one hand, a searing verse from vocalist Alejandro Uribe, and a blistering guitar lead on the other. Topped up with pulsing synths and a chorus that feels like being a little too drunk on some carnival ride… an inebriating mix." Listen ..read more

OUT JANUARY 26th: Today we are announcing “Covered in Glue,” the new single and video from PROBLEMS, out on January 26th on The Record Machine.  Darren made the video on a Chinatown bridge in Chicago over I-55. In his words: “Covered in Glue is a song that I wrote about the layers and layers of dishonesty and bullshit that I used to mask myself to fit in with people wherever I went. The video was filmed on a windy, sub zero day with no idea what was going to happen when two of my friends dumped 10 gallons of Elmer’s glue on my head. The glue was flying in the wind and freezing in layers ..read more
